    It’s a traditional stay in a small onsen village. The hotel has his own onsen plus a private onsen. There are 4 other onsens at 1-2 min walk. The pension house is old but well maintained - it’s a traditional place not a luxury hotel.

    I very conveniently located traditional Japanese Ryokan with lots of Onsen options. Nice cozy place.

    A family owned hotel managed by an elder who speak very little English, but we manage to convey our messages effectively using google translate. The ryokan itself is located deep inside Shibu Onsen, about 2km from Yudanaka train station & is easily accessible via local bus. The room was quite well maintained & able to fit 3 of us comfortably. It can be very cold in the winter, however there's a kerosene heater which will heat up the room. We'll need to turn off the heater before sleep as the heater generate fumes. They provide a very thick blankets that were able to keep us warm at night even when the temp dip to -10degrees. There is a public & private bath in the hotel. Unlike what was mention in previous comments, the bath wasn't actually dirty, it's very well maintained and clean. This hotel is also located beside public bathhouse no.4 and near no.5 which we can go for a quick try of shibu's public onsens. The dinner & breakfast provided by the hotel is also very fulfilling and tasty! My only complain is the toilet wasn't actually working properly. The water tank doesn't fill up after flushes & I had to manually fill it up from the nearby sink.

    Positives are the family who run the Ryokan are lovely and hard working. The lift is helpful Our room was really beautiful with a snowy view Negatives were The whole please smells strongly of cerosine which gives you a headache quickly. The rooms are heated by cerosone heaters which means you have to wake up every 3 hours to reset the timer which is exhausting and not what people ot money to go on holiday to do. The heaters also run empty under a full day use. Also tje onsen down stairs is lovely however the shower pressure is so low it is very hard to have a warm shower and that with the mould on tje shower tiles you dont feel very clean. Last negative was the town has practically no eating options ever. And no convenience store so it’s a 40 min walk to the nearby town in snow to eat. Wouldn’t stay again unfortunately. Was the low light of our trip. Go to Nozawa. Very cool
