    I booked for two but my partner couldn't make it. The room was huge, very premium and immaculate. Staff were very courteous, helpful, and I was pleasantly surprised by a very reasonable and delicious breakfast. The only thing I couldn't find was a phone in my room, which seems a bit odd. But the welcome sweets and tea making facilities were above and beyond for the rate I got. I'd love to come back and try some of the other rooms!

    The property was very quirky and cute but our bathroom had black mold everywhere. We complained and the only response was a 10% future discount. Ridiculous!!! Definitely not to what we have been used to as Japanese standards.

    TL;DR: We left an hour after arriving and got the same space and better amenities for a fraction of the price elsewhere. It may be worth it for standard rooms but the suite experience was pretty bad. The location is okay, the staff are nice and accomodating, nothing terrible regarding the service. We booked a suite and were "upgraded" to one of the executive suites - it was still ~***/night no matter how you scratch it. Why complain about an upgrade? The main selling-point for the suites are that they're themed, insofar that you can book the specific room number you want; being arbitrarily moved without any kind of notice or choice, is souring as we would have preferred the reservation be cancelled as the upgrade was likely triggered due to an overbooking of the same room. The "executive" suite was basically a very large box with a small couch, tv, and bed on a lifted platform. The room had an odd smell - not disgusting but far from pleasant - and the vents looked like they were growing mold; wife and I noticed our passages closing up after about 30 minutes of being in the room. The couch seemed to have zero cushion, just tarp stretched across a frame. The bathroom looked like it belonged in a medical ward. The window was about half of the entire unit, lined with dangling vertical blinds, with an excellent view of a wall since the room seems to be partially underground or something - this is the executive view....a wall. This place is located just at the end of the Nijo Castle for context, and you get a wall instead. We left after spending an hour in the room, most of which was spent looking for another room elsewhere. Are we so well-off that we could flush just under $1K due to same-day cancellation? No - but it was worth it to not have the vacation experience damaged for 2 nights.
