    This is definitely on the "budget" end of the hotel spectrum, and it shows. The rooms are very basic, and the whole layout of the place is very confusing - I and others got disorientated every time we stepped out of the lift. Noise comes in from outside, as does light. The air con unit is very outdated and thus makes a lot of noise, and you can hear the hum of everyone else's units operating too. Bathroom fan also incredibly noisy - as someone who's overstimulated by this type of noise easily I ended up using the light/fan only when showering, as I couldn't stand the noise otherwise. Shower pressure was very low, but water got quite hot quickly which was good. Extra blanket available, which I needed to use as I got cold even with the room on 22. Not rooms you can 'lounge' around in comfortably with only the bed or a stiff desk chair, or the floor, available - not so great on a dodgy back. Loved seeing 3 separate bins near the lift on my level for guests to use for sorting rubbish - used them a couple of times. Linen good, thick towels. Used luggage storage before checking in on my first day - prompt service, heaps of space available, and easy to get my bags when needed. Love the convenience of the location too - really close to the train station, tram stop, supermarket and other conveniences. Would use again for a low budget stay where I don't need all the creature comforts.

    I have stayed at Great Southern a few times. This was the first time in the family room. It was quiet and spacious. Room for a small but simple kitchenette with a bench and a sink. A few more toiletries would be nice, such as toothpaste. But, for the price, it was good value. Good blockout curtains and the breakfast for one member of group was good. The child was able to eat free, so half our party ate the well catered breakfast. Staff were friendly. Good to have luggage storage.

    Close to Southern Cross trains and other transportation. Perfect for overnight stay. Clean, quiet room with comfortable beds.
