The charming settlement of Glenelg could be considered ‘off the beaten track’ however, once here, many tourist hotspots are easily reached especially with the use of the local ferry (running from April to October) taking you ‘over the sea to Skye’. Even though many tourist hotspots are available, guests may find they don’t want to stray far with so much to enjoy on the doorstep. Soak up the freshest of Highland air, take to the hills, go for a paddle, become engrossed in a novel, and switch off from modern life. The Glenelg Inn next door is renowned for its warm Highland welcome, and the local shop provides all your essentials. Glenelg itself is peaceful and remote, but it’s also within easy reach of some of Scotland’s most popular tourist destinations including the Isle of Skye, Plockton, Applecross and Eilean Donan Castle easily. This area is paradise for those who love getting their boots muddy or spotting some rare wildlife.

The area is one of outstanding beauty and the views of Skye can literally change minute by minute with sunsets being particularly memorable. Glen Mhor benefits from having many amenities nearby, whilst being surrounded by some of Scotland’s most dramatic and stunning scenery on offer.

Glenelg is a wonderful location, within a beautiful setting and lots to do including the lovely local Glenelg Inn, just behind the cottage which serves fabulous food, good ales and an excellent selection of Scottish whisky. Just be careful as the Inn is only open during the busy season. Closes mid October.Glen Mhor cottage is well situated, 5 minutes from the water's edge. It provides a great, secure garden for the dogs and happens to be a good size property. The heating took a while to get used to, as the temperature and timings were both controlled by the owners, however we were never cold and you could always top it up with the electric radiator, or electric fire in the lounge if need be. The Kitchen and dining table would be a squeeze with six people around it, but thankfully there were only two of us. Although the kitchen was fairly well equipped, there were a few things that could do with replacing. The can opener was terrible, the fry pans and oven dishes were horrible. The cooker hood light didn't work, so I should remind the owner, this is a hazard. It was a struggle to cook on the inset hob and see what you're doing on the rings furthest away from the edge.Bathroom was a great size, however the shower cubicle could do with a real good scrub in places, with it's blackened grouting where the rusty soap dishes are hung on the wall. Otherwise, the shower itself was great. We didn't use the bath.Lounge is a good size and very comfortable. The electric heater turns off after an hour, but can be turned back on later in the day, so it was no problem.Double bedroom was nice enough with a very large comfy bed. Much appreciated when you have a bad back. Pity the wardrobe had no handles, as opening was at times tricky. There is no hairdryer, so be sure to bring your own and thankfully I did. There is also an oil filled radiator if it really get chilly.Handy to have a rear entrance, where all the coats and boots can be kept.To get to the rear entrance, there is a set of steps. In the pitch black evenings, it would have been useful for the security lighting to have worked as this again is a safety issue. The owner had provided a couple of torches, however neither worked. All in all, a lovely stay... just a few adjustments I would suggest be made.
