7 Mi to Seneca Lake: Family Retreat in Stanley

Very spacious, clean property. Close drive to Geneva and Penn Yann. Good location for exploring the Finger Lakes.

Minor issues: The drapes are too transparent in the main bedroom and bright sun wakes you up very early. A dishwasher would also be nice.

Owner met me at the property to give the door code

First, the owner charged me a $204 cleaning fee and upon arrival we found instructions for how to complete mandatory checkout cleaning, otherwise there was a threat of additional charges to my credit card - strip beads, carry laundry downstairs, empty trash cans, wash dishes, put dishes away, place specific items in specific places. We did 1/2 the cleaning. I deserve a partial refund on the cleaning charge. Beds were absolute ROCK HARD to sleep on. Please invest in better mattresses. Not enough pillows. No throw blankets for lounging on the couch. Only a couple of extra rolls of bath tissue. No extra paper towels. Lovely home but lacking in some ways, we all woke up with backs hurting, and unfair cleaning charge for the work you have to do upon check out.

The house was immaculate! The bedrooms, bathrooms & kitchen were exceptionally clean, as was the entire house. Our host thought of everything! He provided us with bedsheets, towels, everything & anything you can think of in the kitchen (he even had coffee pods & tea bags for guests), and there was a basket of toiletries in each bathroom! How great is that! Upon our arrival, there was a vase of beautiful flowers & a basket filled with water bottles, chips & other goodies. What a pleasant surprise & such a nice way to greet your guests. We had a wonderful time on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail & staying in such an awesome home made our trip even better! We will recommend "The Charming Stanley House" to everyone, and we will definitely return!! Thank you to our host, Larry, for a wonderful experience! Ellen
