"The Byre is an incredible place to stay. Very well and thoughtfully presented with everything we needed for our week on Skye. Spotlessly clean. An ideal space for a couple's get away. Loved the quirky..."

About this house rental

Sleep under the stars in this unique Skye hideaway

The Byre is a luxury 1-bed studio self-catering property situated on the stunning Waternish peninsula. Featuring a real log fire and a magical sleeping area with expansive views over Loch Bay & the Outer Hebrides, the property is perfect for a relaxing break in the Scottish countryside whether travelling solo or as a couple.

The Byre is an 8-minute walk away from The Stein Inn, Skye's oldest pub, as well as the Michelin-starred Loch Bay restaurant (seasonal openings apply, bookings essential).

The Space:

Architecturally designed, The Byre features an on-site wind turbine for eco friendly power generation, making for a lower environmental footprint. The Byre is connected to superfast fibre Wi-Fi (150mb BT connection) with a dining table area that enjoys panoramic views.

For evenings in, we have Netflix available through the television in the living area, plus BBC iPlayer and 4OD to back up the normal live terrestrial TV channels.

For walking and running enthusiasts, Waternish has a multitude of forestry commission roads running behind and up the peninsula from the Byre, which are easily accessible after a 5-minute walk along the road from this accommodation.

We pride ourselves on high quality, well maintained and frequently updated bedding and kitchenware. There is a drip filter machine in the kitchen for coffee enthusiasts. We have a gas hob and microwave oven to cater for cooking needs, as well as a washing machine and full-size fridge. The Byre has underfloor heating, as well as in-roof heating to supplement the open fire on winter evenings. The whole house is warm and cosy throughout, with clean, modern decor to match the quality fitted appliances.

Guest Access:

You will need a car to get here, and to see the sights of Skye during your stay. There is free and ample on-site parking.

The Area:

A 8-minute stroll away is Stein, a conservation village which was designed originally by Thomas Telford as a model fishing village at the end of the 18th century. Stein boasts the renowned Loch Bay Restaurant, the only Michelin-starred restaurant on the Island. Along the pretty terrace, you will also find Skye's oldest pub, the Stein Inn, which serves good food and local ales.

Waternish is home to a wealth of beautiful shorelines to walk along, as well as forestry walks where you can sometimes view amazing wildlife including golden eagles, sea eagles, seals, dolphins, whales, otters and corncrakes. It also has several popular visitor attractions including the 5-star Skyeskyns (next door to the House), Scotland’s only traditional sheepskin tannery and showroom.

Other things to note:
The sleeping area is situated on a mezzanine level accessed via a steep spiral staircase, meaning The Byre is not suitable for guests with acute mobility issues.
Guest access:

Guests will have access to all areas of the Byre during their stay, plus an outdoor deck area. Guests also have garden seating available next to their own dedicated private parking space which leads round to a private access and egress from the Byre itself.

Sight seeing:

The Byre has an outstanding location from which to see Skye's major tourist sights. Roughly 40 minutes drive to the East is the Old Man of Storr, Quiraing and Fairy Glen above Uig. 40 minutes drive West will take you to Talisker Bay, the Distillery and The Fairy Pools. Nearby we have Dunvegan Castle, The Coral Beach, and Waternish Point which offers panoramic views of the Outer Hebrides whatever the weather!

Food & Restaurants:

As well as the Michelin starred Loch Bay restaurant and The Stein Inn within an easy 8 minute walk from The Byre, we have The Edinbane Lodge, The Dunvegan, and Greshornish House all offering excellent food and within a 15 minute drive from the Byre, door to door.

Slightly further afield is The Three Chimneys, at around a 25 minute drive. Whatever your taste and price point, The Byre and surrounding area has an outstanding selection of high quality options for dining out if desired.
