Golden Beach Resort

Beautiful location on the beach. Very family friendly. Food, staff, location were fantastic. Very down to earth and friendly staff. Lots of fab amenities … pools, gym, wave ski, paddle boards and walk to local waterfall. Would definitely go again.

Fabulous. Very professional and exceptional service. Natalie and the other lady at the front desk went over and beyond. All the staff was very friendly and helping. They kept the kitchen open late only for me because I was late from a plankton bioluminescent tour at night. The private beach in front of the hotel is very well maintained and pristine. Could not have asked for more. Best beach vacation I have ever had

Overall I was disappointed mostly by the price. We stayed at another resort on Koh Rong before Golden Beach which was half the price and much better in almost every regard. This resort is nowhere near it's 5 star rating - I have stayed in many 5 star resorts in south east asia and this was the most disappointing. Breakfast was good but limited options. The resort restaurant area was very small and overcrowded. On our last day there were heaps of people left standing with their breakfast waiting for seats, as the outdoor area was unshaded due to the 2 umbrellas breaking the day before. Day 1 we had no hot water, they came to fix - then we had no water. Eventually it was fixed. Every day we had to chase them up to service our room. No minibar. No happy hour - almost everywhere else had one! It was right on the main street which was a busy road lots of trucks and bikes zooming past which kinda killed any chilled vibe. There was then a major mix up when we were leaving with the boat transfer back to the mainland - staff member seemed all over the place. No thank you or goodbye when we were leaving. The vibe was just very strange the whole time. Very dull atmosphere, very little ambiance - no music in the bar/restaurant areas for the first 3 days of our stay. The facilities were nice and clean, food was outstanding to be fair, but the most expensive we experienced on the island. Another annoying thing, which in fairness we encountered a lot in Cambodia was the lack of no-smoking zones. There were a lot of smokers - so we're sitting having our breakfast and there's smokers everywhere around us. Kills the appetite. Would have expected this from a hostel or 2 star, but not 5 star. 4 stars at best - never 5 stars.
