The Retreat at Dukes Townhouse

The property is in a good location and within easy access of the train station and all other parts of the city are in walking distance. It was spacious and modern. Bed was really comfortable and this would be an ideal apartment for the summer months. Sofa is small and not the most comfortable for chatting and watching TV. The photos sum up the property and are as is.

I really struggled with the key safe on the wall. I have had many surgeries on my hand and it was difficult to open. This property is not for those with any kind of disabilities as there are 13 stone steps to the properties hallway. When I finally got inside, it was very cold (15 degrees) on the thermostat. It is controlled by Nest and when you turn it up, it has limited time before it goes back down (controlled on an app elsewhere). The temperature was uncomfortable and after 3 days it was finally ok. The price of the apartment should include the heating charge and the owners should appreciate it, when visitors want the heating to be on. The underfloor heating was not on and the heated towel rail only stays on for a limited time. Hot water was limited so didn't get to use the bath. Bear in mind, the apartment above, occupants were up at 5am and it is very noisy as you can hear them walking around and closing doors. If you want any kind of lie in, don't stay here.

There was not anything that we did not like.

We travelled by train and the apartment was only a short walk from the station with easy access in minutes to the town. Shower was powerful and constant hot water. Bed was super comfy and heating was good all round even without the underfloor heating this time of year. The apartment was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed for our short stay. Already looking to book again so it is a definite 5 stars form us *****

Comfortable bed and very homely. Close to York city centre, great location.

Unfortunately the hot water wasn’t working for us which was frustrating as one of the main reasons I booked this stay was because of the bath. The owner of the property came over to resolve this issue and we had hot water for a little bit but it then shut off again.
