Salcombe holiday cottage

Well decorated, nicely laid out

It was difficult to find, the name of the adjacent house was impossible to read unless you were ready close to it and there was no sign for the actual cottage and the drive/parking area was full of containers, a skip and other stuff(see photos). There was no heating, despite the radiators being switched onto 5 they never got warm. There was no apparent way I could switch the heating on myself.

Disappointing Stay with Ongoing Issues – Wi-Fi and Safety Concerns

We chose this accommodation for its convenient location when visiting family, as well as it being dog-friendly and advertised with Wi-Fi for work. The property was easy to find and access using the key safe instructions. The double bed was comfortable and the bedroom had adequate furniture. The bathroom was clean and pleasant, and once we had instructions the heating worked quickly.

The cluttered driveway, including a lorry trailer, made parking and reversing difficult. The property felt more like a converted garage than a cottage. Half the external door handle was missing, an issue previously reported but not fixed. The property was freezing on arrival. Electricity tripped several times, with the fuse box behind the sofa and the issue already known. There was no visible safety information, extinguisher, or clear smoke alarms. Cobwebs were noticeable, and the shower door sticks when closed. Wi-Fi did not work at all during our stay, meaning I had to find alternative places to work. The owners were abroad and the issue remained unresolved, with no apology or support regarding a refund, though customer service later assisted as the Owen was not prepared to support. Booking.com were brilliant! The property is on a busy main road with traffic noise, and there was no information pack. Overall, multiple recurring issues from previous reviews appear not to have been addressed, and we would not stay again or recommend.

Very warm in property very nice space. Very clean lovely shower

The only things which would enhance the stay would be a long mirror somewhere maybe in the bedroom and ano mirror on the wall in the bathroom and some hanging space for dresses and maybe less drawers.

Dogs welcome & washing machine useful

Closer to road than realised, hard to find, went out and when came back they had closed drive gate. Not good parking as on busy road and no space to turn around. Not clean hairs in basin, dirty bedding, carpet not vacuumed, hairs through out, we did bring our dog and he got messy rolling around. Broken front door handle, no smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector, no blind/curtains on door opposite bathroom or in bathroom. No instructions so had to work it out ourselves, wanted to empty bin but didn't know where! No baking trays or oven gloves. Radiator under tv caused tv to give warning and turn off as overheated! Chest of drawers broken. Noisy boiler. Slippery to entrance, we both slipped, just needs washing. Mattress needs replacing as uncomfortable sinking. Just needs some tlc and a guide.

I would stay again, could just use a a little bit of a deep clean and service.

Property was comfortable and warm.

The oven kept tripping the electric , the outside path way very slippy and felt a bit neglected. It was quite a very busy road so we needed to reverse in, not an easy task in the dark with all the obstacles and our large vehicle , ie skip, waggon used as storage and other stored items. Could use a dressing mirror in the bedroom too. Nb third dining chair was broken at the bottom, no issue for us on this occasion, lamp table also very rickety.

Just what was needed after a long bike ride

Everything was there that was needed and comfortable. The Italian restaurant next door was handy.

I have allergies so there may of been dust as I sneezed a lot and eyes were itchy.

Close to lovely walks and perfect for my short stay

Clean, it had a smart tv which was really handy even though I didn’t stay that long in the property. It has all the amenities such as washing machine, cooker etc. perfect size for my stay with the dog.

I had a little struggle getting into the shower but that’s my fault.

Looks exactly like the pictures and description. We brought our 2 dogs which was amazing to be able to do. It’s the perfect little place to stay when it’s just a couple of you.

Ideal base for couple or small family.

Rural location, very quiet, pet friendly, compact but versatile.

Location was a bit difficult to find initially. Some signage at the entrance would help, and the car parking area could do with making a bit more inviting as you drive in. From the road, it looks like you are entering a farm yard. The mattress on the bed in the main bedroom is ready for an upgrade sooner rather than later.

Looking forward to our next stay!

A really well thought out space finished to a high specification. I could have stayed in the shower for hours! Comfy bed. Streaming services on the TV and WiFi included in the price. Towels, tea towel, cloth and cleaning products are supplied, as was shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Secure yard for dogs, with a hose provided to wash down. The owner replies to messages promptly, and respects your privacy.

There was nothing we didn’t like, we’ve already booked our next stay! Some feedback - a vegetable peeler, cheese grater and some sharp knives would be a good addition. 😊

Would definitely stay again, lovely people and a very nice holiday cottage.

The space was well used and not cramped at all. It was well decorated and modern throughout. We couldn’t fault the facilities or the place. For the price, it was excellent value for money and well worth every penny.

We had serious issues trying to find the property, maybe a sign outside to indicate the name of the cottage.

Comfortable cottage equipped with everything we needed for a couple of nights stay. A few restaurants close by for meals in the evening.

the dodgy light switch, which fused the electricity. This is a simple fix, I found it strange that this wasn't fixed before it was rented out! Apart from that, it's a good place to stay!

Great cottage

Cottage was a great size, had all the amenities we needed. Great location for the wedding we were attending at Brockholes.

Lack of a garden for letting dogs out - there were not many places nearby where dogs could run around so that was a bit difficult, and the car parking area was not very appropriate for dogs as there was a lot of rubbish and machinery. Bed mattress was comfy but sank in the middle - maybe needs replaced.

stopped here previously with no issue, and normally enjoy it, this is the first negative review I’ve ever left and i didn’t want to, I sent the owner a message a simple reply even acknowledging my message will have done to have avoided this..

normally have an amaizng peaceful stay, this time we had a very noisy neighbour swearing and shouting at 08.30am on a Sunday morning and woke my unwell partner up, no wheelie bin for rubbish so after 3 days the bins were over flowing, kitchen bin was also full on arrival, the shower door sticks u need to force it open almost breaking it, was promised a bigger tv by the host it never happend, felt like I had to put all my energy in to watching a 24inch tv,
