Sand Dune Beach Hotel & Surf Camp

Loved everything about this place, super chilled, clean rooms, hammocks, good aircon, fab breakfast and staff. Loved the out of the way quiet location.

The area is relatively speaking quiet and the other guests were friendly.

The value is not great, i would actually say it’s downright bad. The bathroom was really worn out, same with the common facilities. No yoga class even though the hotel has pictures of yoga classes being had at the property. The breakfast service is really slow, even though we were alone in the dining room we had to wait for an hour for simple toasts to be ready. The hotel advertises that they rent Tuktuks, so we rented one for a couple of days. We got the keys to it but zero explenation of how it works. Well it was relatively easy to understand and we got going. But the staff failed to tell us that the fuel tank was almost empty. We managed to get about 3 km and the fuel run out. Then we had to wait for over an hour to get someone to help us with more fuel, and the staff gaslighted us and wondered what we where thinking when we went without first topping up with fuel. Firstly, who rents a scooter or tuktuk without fuel? Secondly, if you do that be 100% sure that you tell your customer that so they don’t get stranded on a road when it’s 32 degrees hot and sunny. We used their laundry service, we dropped the bags with clothes to the staff during the afternoon and the staff promised to us that they would be ready the next morning, well they failed to deliver what was promised and we got the clothes 5pm instead. And it seemed like other guests had the same issues too. The struggles continued when we were going to checkout. First, the hotel didn’t offer us an early checkout at 7:00, they could do 7:30 the earliest which wasn’t an option for us. So we had to do the payment late during the evening before the last night and even that ended up being a hazzle. Neither mine or my wifes bank cards (two different banks) worked for the hotels payment device. We had been in Sri Lanka for well over a week and paid with both cards at multiple places without issues.
