Communication & listing of property location needs to be clearer

The location of the property feels safe & residential. Not too busy. Amenities are ok. Near tram stop.

The beds were not great. Both the mattress for the double bed and the sofa bed sunk in the middle which made it hard to get proper sleep. This was also not the original location of the property we booked. They claim that it's written that they have the right to change location. But the clause was very hidden. The right location with the right apartment type should be on the face of the webpage.

Company doesn't handle any problems well

The location is great for exploring the city.

On the first morning of our stay, two out of three of us had a shower and the drain must have been blocked, as there was water all over the bathroom and kitchen floor after showering. We spent over 1 hour cleaning it up and let the apartment people know. We sent them photos. They came and looked and must have unblocked the drain which is great. However, instead of saying that, they made out that we must have been lying, that there was nothing wrong in the shower and that there wasn't any water in the apartment as the furniture was fine. I again explained that we cleaned it up and spent over an hour doing so. I found the way the company handled the issue was terrible. They could have just said thanks for bringing it to our attention, we have been to the apartment and the drain was blocked and we've sorted it. Here's a little something for your inconvenience. Instead they made out we made it up.

Good clean apartment in a good location

Close to all the main attractions and a 10 minute walk from the main station. Clean apartment and comfortable bed, easy access to keys in lock box when we arrived from instruction via email .

We were a little cold but the city was beautiful:))

The location is fantastic. It was easy to get to from the HBF. It's not too long to walk to the cathedral. It's very close to many stores and shopping areas. The house had almost everything you needed. The furnishings were new and modern. Wifi internet connection was good. TV and coffee machine were also good.

The cleaning wasn't very good. The apartment was generally clean and spacious. However, it was upsetting to see hair in the bed and bathroom. When we first entered the house, I noticed the heaters weren't working. We contacted the property to report the problem, but since they didn't use an instant messaging app, it was boring to constantly text and wait. After a few messages, they told us there was nothing that could be done for the first day. Our first night was spent trying to keep a small child warm in the house, with temperatures outside at 2-3 degrees Celsius. As soon as we woke up the next morning, we texted the landlord, asking for help resolving the issue. They said they would send someone, but they didn't know when. It took until the evening for someone to come to check. The person who came did a few things, told us the heaters would be on in 20 minutes, and left the house. After waiting about an hour, the heaters were still not working. We messaged the landlord again, said them heaters were still cold. In response to our last message, they said that even though the heaters were not working, the temperature of the house was normal (the person who came to check the temperature measured it with a mobile phone application), there was nothing more they could do and the heating system was working normally. I thanked them and told them we would take care of ourselves. They made me laugh when they told me I shouldn't fix the heating system myself.

The location was fantastic and we enjoyed Cologne

I didn’t like the way the bed was not made when we’ve been travelling all day and had to make it. The pillows were so soft. They were chunks of cut up foam and uncomfortable. There was a light hanging off the side of the wall with Live cables. The Laundry that was explained to us that there was one you had to pay and there were no instructions. It was on the ground floor. We ended up spending more money there than we would at a launderette and if we had instructions it would’ve been a lot better so it was very disappointed about that and took all of four hours to do our washing it seems like one euro is 15 minutes even for the washing machine there is a kitchenette there which we really wanted to cook breakfast and there were no fry pans. when I asked about it, they said they don’t supply frypan as it’s a fire hazard.😌 trying to get into the property where the lockbox is and there is no light was complicated

Excellent location - close to everything. Good studio apartment for city break. Liked being able to make your own breakfast in the morning (fridge and kettle and hob)

Nice apartment but...

Location was great and apartment very spacious

I wasn't aware that there were three flights of stairs when booking, and it was very difficult with luggage to carry up and down the narrow stairway. Also the apartment had a very strange smell. The toilet roll holder was very rusty and needs replacement. Overall it was a very impersonal property, with only email messages but also no reply to emails sent..

Disappointing stay – only the location was good

The location was the only positive point, as it was close to the city center.

Unfortunately, there were many negative aspects. The apartment was extremely noisy, especially early in the morning due to cleaning trucks, which was very disturbing. It was also very hot inside with no air conditioning. The apartment did not look like the description shown on Booking, and the kitchen was poorly equipped with almost no dishes or utensils, and now lave linge as described on booking. Moreover, the smell from the café/restaurant on the ground floor, which spreads into the staircase and enters the apartment, was very unpleasant.

Misleading/Incorrect location. Slow/Poor check in process. Nice apartment. Great surrounding area.

The apartment was clean and contained most the amenities that you would expect. The location of the apartment was not what I expected (it was different from the apartment that was booked), but the Chlodwigplatz area is very nice.

A few things interrupted our stay. Upon arrival, it took a while to check in (as I did not provide my email address to the host - my fault), however when I called the customer service line provided by the host, no one picked up the phone even though I was calling during the allocated open times. When the host finally responded to my email, it took over an hour to organise and complete the check in process. It was not smooth. I booked an apartment near Neumarkt/Heumarkt - the apartment given was not near this location at all! The apartment that was provided was at Chlodwigplatz. This was not represented of the booking at all A small thing, fresh bedding was provided wrapped up in a plastic packet. It wasn't put on the bed. I did not expect to have to put the bedding on to the blanket and pillows myself.

Great apartment in city center

Overall a good place to stay for a few day in the city, great location 10min walk to the Dom. plenty of shops and restaurants around. Plenty of options for safe and paid parking around the location. We would stay again, if we come back to Cologne.

No Aircon, so rather hot during the summer, meaning we slept with windows open, but that caused some trouble with mosquitoes, but nothing that could not be dealt with.

**"A Disappointing Stay Full of Issues"**

The address provided for the reservation and the actual accommodation location were different, and there was no prior information about this situation. Despite calling the host regarding the issue, we received no response to our calls or messages. The room we stayed in had nothing to do with the photos shown. The second bed was an uncomfortable sofa. Our stay was a complete disappointment. If you’re planning a vacation full of problems, this is definitely the place to choose.

Location

Bad smell in the bathroom, pillows are uncomfortable. The most important issue was lack of communication, wrong information on apartment access and location, no response to emergency calls. This includes Booking..com emergency numbers as well. No one accessible from Booking.com 24/7 phone number. We had to wait more than an hour under the rain!!!

Before booking this apartment I was looking at other people's reviews and because of some negative comments I didn't want to book. Then I relied on my instinct and I did very well. I can tell you that this location for me was perfect in every way. Extremely clean, equipped with everything you need, owners attentive to all the details. I will definitely come back. And for those of you who write banalities in reviews, live your life, stop being so frustrated, because the bed is small or the pillow is not comfortable, or that you had to put the sheets on yourself, or one thing or another. You want to stay in an apartment with many people but also cheaply. Life is beautiful, stop being so sad.

Ok but nothing special.

The location was good as promised. Excellent places to eat and drink in the neighborhood. Close to the cathedral and public transport. Key deposit paid back on time.

There was no fan or air conditioner so we had windows open due to the heat. The apartment is on the first floor above a pub and thus sleep is impossible till midnight. This plus rowdy football fans till 02h30 on game nights made rest impossible. The washing machine in the basement requires payment for electricity by coins only. €3 per full wash. No drying rack, iron or ironing board available. No toaster available. Two months after booking a further €500 key deposit and breakage deposit was required or we lost the booking and 100% of our payment. We reluctantly paid it. We found communication with the agent very difficult due to her apparent language difficulties in communication in English. The apartment is actually nothing more than a hotel room with a kitchenette. Pity that what started off well was a disappointment and Booking.com could offer no resolution to my difference of opinion with the property management.

the apartment is located in the center of the city, within easy reach of all important places, but at the same time, it is a quiet and peaceful area, there are many restaurants, cafes, and shops nearby it was very convenient very good sound insulation the apartment is very cozy and clean, the kitchen has enough dishes and electrical appliances for cooking

the apartment had very bad wi-fi, because of this the TV worked very poorly, a very old hair dryer that could not be used to dry hair, we thought it would burn, so we did not use it

Apartment was nice but organisation of hosts was appalling.

Once we finally got in the apartment was very smart and nice but the poor organisation negated this fact. It would have been nice to stay here for the whole trip!

Instructions stated the keys would be in a lock box at the front door, I opened the box to find no keys were left for us. I tried contacting the hosts that evening but no response so had to stay else where for the first 2 nights until a key was correctly delivered for us to gain access. I understand mistakes can happen but we were told we would be compensated for the mistake but have not received anything 3 weeks later.

Location was ok. But not what we booked. Far from city center. Review below is for a different address she moved us to.

Property manager was very rude. First they changed my property I originally booked to another location no where near where I booked. Then she kept sending me links to check in on line which I couldn't open. I finally called her and she said she didn't speak English. I said I didn't speak German and her response was "You are in Germany". She then said if I can't check in on line then I will be standing at a locked door. Those were here exact words. There is no one on site. Eventually we got her to finally send an email with the codes to get in. Very bad experience all around. Location was good as we were in a small local neighborhood. But it was at see least a 30-40 minute walk to city center. Also had the smoking area for the rest of the renters right out our window so couldn't open the windows. This review is not for the address listed in this booking.com reservation since she changed our location. I would not rent from her again.

Everything about this stay was dodgy. We arrived looking for number 60 Glockengasse, when in fact the apartment was, we eventually found, at number 62-64 where the key safe was. Presumably, there had been complaints about the property at 62-64, so they changed the address a little bit to launder it, similar to it's name, that was changed from FlatDeCologneCTIY the day we left (it is nowFlatDECologneSUNSET). There was one double bed, a trundle bed behind a door and a rolled up camping mattress in a cupboard. That is not 4 beds, that is two beds and camping gear. Misleading and deceptive. Upon leaving we were falsely accused of breaking a bedside light, that was broken when we arrived (sorry, didn't photograph every single appliance upon arrival) and bending a door knob (never saw a zoomed out photo in situ, so could have been any knob, even the proprietor who was a definite knob) and threatened a penalty charge of 150 euros, which I presume they try on with every tenant. It's funny that I've stayed in thousands of properties over 40 years of travel and suddenly me, my 13 and 15 year old daughters and their 58 year old mother have managed to trash a place. This is most disappointing and toxic in what should be a tourism industry welcoming back tourists post COVID. Cologne people, you can do an awful lot better. Disappointed in human nature.

There was no heat or hot water in the apartment due to a technical fault the evening we arrived and it was still not fixed by the next morning. We were told it would be fixed and it wasn't. We left and asked for a refund but they refused to refund us. Beware if anything goes wrong the agent is difficult to deal with. We were charged €300 for two nights even though we only stayed one night as we had no other option and there was no heat and hot water that night. Worst experience ever. I would have rated this place 0 but that is not possible.

Location is perfect. Furniture and bathroom are very nice. Kitchen is well equipped.

I had a mess with check-in. I did not understand, that address is sent in a separate email. It's first time I see such situation, but it's my mistake. Maybe the host should just emphasize about those emails. Also wifi router requires confirmation each time you connect to it. It's not convenient for some devices.

be careful, not a ‘dog allowed’ apt!

the location is excellent, near the shopping district. close to the dom & train station.

The staff actually cannot speak proper English and they are not very nice if you do not follow their way. I am solo traveller with my dog. This apt is dog allowed and request upon arrival. After booking this apt, I have sent the registration form and my passport by email as requested. Form has been sent straightaway and should be okay. However a day before the arrival, the host asked me on WhatsApp ‘please send your email and i can send you an information over’. Pardon, they must have my email address while sending my registration form. so I texted my email address then. The reply was - Christmas Eve,no working. My check in was on 25/12, the host emailed me 4 hours before check in, fair enough. I texted the host - what is the wifi password? no response at all, there is no information booklet in the apartment. please beware! Check out on 27/12/2022 - The host(old lady) was not very nice, she shouted and threatened me over the phone as ‘charges you extra for bringing your dog’. excuse me, dog allowed on the website. I sent the picture to show there is ‘dog allowed’ facility. Before that, she sent more than 10 emails to prove she was right and had a big temper. (absolutely not very nice after x’mas) Also there is no left luggage service - so I left my luggage outside the apartment(by the door, first floor)so I bring the key with me when going out. Because my train was in the late evening, plenty of time, so I went somewhere nice. far from the town. then she called and said I forgot to drop the key. i explained to her - it took me an hour to return to the apt. She was so mad - ‘ i will throw your bag on the street if you don’t come back within 15 mins.’ by text. Wow… just a key! She was worried that the next client couldn’t get in. They should have backup? IF I lost the key, what happened then ?? Gosh!!! unhappy ending - dislike to have communication problem. 😫😖😣

Wohnung leider nicht wie beschrieben.

Die Lage war top, die Dusche und der Herd auch. Es gab einen schönen Tisch mit 4 Stühlen.

Die Wohnung war leider kalt (im Januar), obwohl die Heizungen voll aufgedreht waren als wir kamen. Die Beschreibung war leider nicht akkurat, denn wir hatten ein weiteres Doppelbett erwartet, deswegen war die Wohnung für uns leider unpassend. Aus dem Klo im Bad stank es wie aus einer Kloake. Die Wohnung war nicht im zweiten Stock wie angekündigt, sondern im 4. Stock.
