The house was perfect for our trip to Carmel Valley. Spacious and clean with a gorgeous outdoor setting and private pool. Highly recommend!

Absolutely wonderful stay!! House is spectacular and the views are incredible. Would definitely stay again!

We thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful property. It was very well appointed—especially for cooking. The natural surroundings were very peaceful with hiking trails right out the side gate. We did not realize the travel time to Carmel-by-the-Sea, but it was still doable. And for our five adults and family dog, it was the perfect size.

We enjoyed the property for our short stay. The outdoor decks, pool and hot tub were great.

This is a nice comfortable cozy remote place with fenced in area for your dog(s) which is a plus. The weather was beautiful during our stay which was also a plus. My only complaints were the remote area and semi-dangerous road if you have a large vehicle..in some spots, only room for one vehicle to go thru. I would never drive Cachagua Road in the dark, but it was definitely listed in the description, so my fault. I live remotely also, so I thought it would be fine, but I did not realize the narrowness of the road. Another thing that I did not see in the description was that the pool was only 3 1/2 feet deep & very small--maybe I missed that? I rent a home every year, mainly for a dog friendly home & the pool only, so that was a disappointment. Our family likes to lap swim & this was not possible. Also, the carpet in the main house upstairs bedroom & downstairs den were not the cleanest, but fine with that because we spent most of our time outside on the beautiful deck by the pool or in the beautiful family room.
Pluses, I like the fact that there is an additional frig.in the side room so that you can get all the food you need for a week in advance & never have to leave the house. Also, loved the separate apartment semi-attached to the house so other adults could have privacy. All in all we had a good stay. Only reason I would not stay again is because of the small and shallow pool, but that is a personal preference issue. Thank you for sharing your lovely home.

Had the most amazing weekend stay at this gorgeous property! From the valley views to the cozy hot tub there was never a dull moment! We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a private and relaxing getaway

Mary is a lovely host - responsive and gracious - and her property is magical. The views are spectacular, and the house is comfortable, clean and abundantly cozy. Its location makes for unparalleled privacy. To reach this Shangri-la be prepared for a miles-long drive on a narrow, winding, mountain road full of sharp switchbacks. The destination is worth any white-knuckle moments; tranquility abounds. This remote retreat is ideally situated for those who don't desire nighttime excursions to town or beyond. The kitchen is well-equipped and the outdoor dining space is gorgeous, so no need to dine out if you shop in advance. One detail to be aware of in chilly months: Space heaters are the heat source for the two rooms attached to the main house, and they cannot be kept on overnight. It wasn't an issue for us; after heating the room prior to bedtime, we were perfectly comfortable in mid-January temps. We would recommend that the binder of house instructions be updated; it contained information that was inaccurate (including wi-fi details). Our stay was short and regretfully we didn't have time to explore this stunning 20-acre property. Would love to return in warmer months to bask in the serenity and to take advantage of the lovely pool.

Everything was very nice, except for the pool. It wans't heated. We were disapointed since the pool was the mail attraction, and the reason we picked that house over other houses.
And the email questions were not answered.

Stayed here for our 10 year anniversary with our 2 dogs. The outdoor space was absolutely amazing. The dogs enjoyed exploring the yard every day. Yard is fenced so the dogs had the freedom to roam around and still be near by. Saw lots of birds, squirrels and deer from the property. Weather was great for sun bathing and swimming. Would stay here again and would recommend for anyone traveling with dogs.

The property is nice and comfortable. We enjoyed pool and hot tub. The carpet is stained could use cleaning. The road driving up is very curvy and a little scary at times. Overall, we were satisfied.
10.0 / 10.0
The property was serene and secluded. The Native American decor with a splash of other ethnic touches and bohemian fixtures was well-appointed. Our family enjoyed walking to the property line that we could manage on foot. Our dogs appreciated the daily visit of the wild turkeys and explored all parts of the fenced-in areas. The pool was utilized on-the-daily by the children and when inside they played board games; I rarely had to entertain them...it was excellent! That apartment was the perfect separation from the kid chatter. We practically used every utensil creating dishes and enjoying smores from the fire.
There was a minor technical difficulty with the front security gate, but Mary was as responsive as she could be for a holiday week. We would totally consider this property again.

The property is beautiful and the views are incredible. Mountains, valleys, oak trees, sky, and birds. The house is a bit mixed between rustic and bohemian but it is super clean and has all the modern amenities. It's pretty "out there". The road to the property (as described) is winding. I don't know if I'd use it as a jump off point for Monterey and surrounding attractions. However, if you are looking for peace, quiet, and relative privacy....this is a pretty amazing spot.

This house is really quite beautiful, tastefully decorated and so comfortable. We had 7 people and all felt at home. The kitchen was well supplied so we could just hang out and cook and even had all we needed to do some baking.
Can’t beat the hot tub and deck under the starry skies and the view of the tree covered hills beyond.
Mary was very responsive with any questions we had.
Highly recommended!

Our family of 7 had a beautiful week here. On arrival, it was fun to explore the property both inside and out. The location is peaceful and beautiful.
The home itself was impeccably clean. The bathrooms and kitchen were well appointed with everything we needed. We cooked extensive meals and found the cookware, dishware, and appliances were more than adequate. The beds are very comfortable and cozy.
The views are AMAZING. Make sure to wake up early to enjoy the sunrise with the sounds of roosters crowing and turkeys gobbling through the valley.
For our 5 children, the pool, hot tub, fire pit, and yard were a hit.
This place is equally appropriate for a couple looking for a romantic getaway or a large family like ours hoping for a little adventure.
I could go on and on about how much I enjoyed our week here!!

This place is stunning and even the images don’t do this place the Justice it deserves. Mary was an amazing host and very communicative, especially during a challenging weather situation. Highly recommended for those looking for a property to relax, rest and reset!

Stayed here with friends for a long relaxing weekend. The property has beautiful views which can’t be beat, and enough comfortable space to keep you happy and entertained. While the road up is long and windy, once you’re there you won’t want to leave, so come prepared. This was our second time staying at this property and I would happily stay here again!

Our family just loved staying here! It felt like the cross between a Tahoe cabin and Sonoma vineyard. The home is incredibly well stocked; If you arrive with ample groceries, you'll really have no reason to ever leave. The hot tub, with its mountain views, is just lovely. And the house's interior is gorgeous, with many rooms paneled entirely with wood.

I stayed at Mary's property over Thanksgiving week with my husband, my sister and her husband, and their 3-year-old daughter. The location was perfect for a relaxing getaway - the views are incredible, and the outdoor area is the perfect setup for relaxing, working, and enjoying nature. It was too cold to use the pool, but the hot tub was wonderful to sit in and stargaze at night. The house itself is divided into two parts, as noted in the listing and other reviews. This worked well for dedicated space and privacy for everyone, although you can hear the main suite from the living room area, and there's no separate door for the staircase that leads up to it (it's connected to the entry room area). The wifi worked extremely well for being in such a remote area, with all four adults working and on video calls at the same time, but note there was no cell service aside from one of us on AT&T. The living room/dining room/kitchen worked great for our family. It had most items that we needed, and a few things we couldn't find were provided when I sent a note to the host. It was also very nice that the owner provides firewood to use in the fireplace in the living room, so we didn't have to buy any. Overall, I would highly recommend the property for a very relaxing stay!
6.0 / 10.0
The house has two parts, main house has a living room, kitchen a den and a bed room plus bath on level 2. Second and third bedrooms with one bath are outside the main house and at level 2. Bed room sizes are small and property is dated. View is nice. Would I stay in same property again… No. One does not get value for money spent of nearly $900 per day.

We had an absolutely amazing time at this property. It was exactly as pictured -- if not better -- and the weather was wonderful. We enjoyed the hot tub, had fun cooking in the kitchen, and slept great in the comfortable beds! Thank you!!

I never wrote a review before but this one is for the books. We were gifted this amazing property for the next day after our wedding. Not only did Steve know this was a gift base on his response saying ‘you have great friends’,but we were coming here to celebrate getting married. Upon our arrival we noticed a strong odor of a dead animal that what we thought was a skunk. The smell did come through the mud area up to the master bedroom. We thought maybe the house needed to be opened up and it to be cleared out so we gave it a day, or so. This was not the case and the smell worsened. We contacted Steve via email informing him of the ‘smell’ and not only did he admit that he was aware of a skunk passing in the area outside of the front door/ garage. He said it was only a ‘faint’ smell and the dog probably brought it in. There was no mention of offering to come up put in air fresheners or to see what more they could do but only accuse me of making it up and blaming my dog. His words were,” I know dogs well and I know dogs like to roll in stinky things so I am sure your dog has brought the smell in.” Ummmmm, no Steve, sorry. I would know if my dog smelled like a skunk. He continued to tell me that there wasn’t a smell. After I said he did not disclose the information or try to do anything about it , he said I was making up the smell and blaming my dog so he didn’t have to do anything about it. I am sorry but if I was the owner of this property I would be disgusted by the management and how Steve treated us, hence the review. To be clear, the negative review is not towards the direct home but to the management. In the information listed about the property, Steve mentions to make sure you have everything you need because it is a jaunt down the hill. That is what we loved about the property. The house and the space are amazing. We had to make a couple trips down the hill to buy products to eliminate the smell. I would highly recommend this property and would love to return for a better experience as long Steve is not representing the property because if something goes wrong I can guarantee you he doesn’t care. I don’t appreciate accusing ‘us’ of bringing the smell of a dead skunk up to our master bedroom in what we thought of being a romantic getaway for our wedding after making it clear he knew about it. The house and space is great. Steve, to your your last email response, I am not offended, I am disgusted by your professionalism.

Honestly it is an oasis out here. I will say it is a DRIVE to get out to the house but it’s so worth it. Our whole crew of 6 very much enjoyed our trip and were incredibly comfortable. The mornings were a little chilly but it was so easy to warm up post coffee and wrapping ourselves up in the morning. The hot tub and pool were fantastic and had a beautiful view. I even left my iPad behind and the host is helping me retrieve it. Overall a very needed, relaxing weekend.

This property is exactly what it looks like as listed online, if not better. The property is incredibly secluded where you can only see distant vineyards and no neighboring homes. We loved the layout of the property, and the breakout of various rooms and sections of the outdoor area. Heads-up to make sure you look at the location before you get there as the drive is fairly long from Carmel Valley town area with the windy roads!
8.0 / 10.0
The home appears to have been pieced together by an individual with amateur building skills. This enhances the quaintness and rustic quality but if the pictures lead you to think this is top shelf you will want to try something else.
Aside from some strange level changes and a toilet that does not fit a six foot person (No Knee room) it was really lovely with tremendous mild weather and country silence.
Hot tubbing while looking at the hills and clouds is highly recommended

This house brought an excellent mix of old-school vacation home feel and modern conveniences. Our two small families did well, utilizing the pull-out couch in the den. It might be more appropriate for a single family or friends, but we were perfectly happy with the arrangements. The kitchen was well stocked, the house was clean and comfortable and the grounds were beautiful and expansive. This is a perfect place to relax. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, but recommend arriving during daylight hours ( the road in is very windy).

The drive from San Francisco to the property was east. The manager provided excellent and useful directions for the last few miles that were extremely useful. The property is wonderful for quality family time. We enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets. The pool provided entertainment for all ages. Carmel Village and Carmel by the Sea are close by if you want to get into town. Our two family dogs enjoyed the property as well. We would definitely stay here again!

This is a good place to stay, if you are looking for peace and quiet. It was further into the mountains than we had expected, so we only went into Monterey once. Very windy roads took us awhile to get to the property. Perfect for neing with family playing games, reading, and relaxing.

Such a wonderful property. We're totally in love. It's a distance up the hill, but the views and peace once you arrive are totally worth it. The nearby town is lovely with plenty of great things to do. We'll definitely be back 😀

Great Escape
Great Escape
My wife, son and I recently enjoyed a great, relaxing stay here in Carmel Valley with my parents. The property was laid out really well for our group and we spent the majority of the time enjoying the outside grounds, in particular the pool area. Temperatures were pretty high the week we were there, however the tips provided by the host helped us keep the house cool and comfortable throughout the stay. Although the property is off the beaten path a bit (which I believe to be a huge plus), we easily enjoyed dinner each night down in the village at several great restaurants. We saw quite a bit of wildlife on the grounds - turkeys, birds, deer and even a skunk (luckily not too close) and loved seeing all of the stars from the deck and hot tub at night. Altogether a great stay, and I would highly recommend it!

Amazing relaxation at a fantastic property!!
Amazing relaxation at a fantastic property!!
WOW - The property is phenomenal. The setup is designed for entertaining and larger groups and works very well for small (one / two family set-ups) also. The open concept in the kitchen / dinning / living room overlooking the canyon is gorgeous and makes meal prep and conversation flow very easy. The kitchen is well designed and fully stocked. The outdoor space is great. We really enjoyed the pool - it was warm (we stayed in May) and it is fairly shallow; therefore, it provides great entertainment for the smaller family members while keeping everyone safe. I personally really enjoyed the outdoor dining set-up. The table comfortably fits 10-12 people and I enjoyed sitting there enjoying morning coffee / after-dinner drinks. We did fire-pit /s'mores in the evenings and it was awesome. Overall, would highly recommend it and will come back again!

Great Carmel Valley Retreat
We love our family get-aways to this secluded pool paradise. There is a separate two bedroom apartment with its own bathroom that the kids claim as their own. The hot tub is perfect for watching the the shadows fall across the valley in the evening. We highly recommend this house!

Beautiful, quiet and relaxing
This is an amazingly beautiful and quiet property. The view is breathtaking! We loved swimming in the pool and soaking in the jacuzzi , breakfast in the midst of bumblebees and humming birds and dinners at sunset. The road the last 30min is quite winding, but as long as you’re well stocked with food and wine, it’s time to relax and enjoy the house and view!
The house manager is also extremely helpful and fast to respond.

Great escape!
Great escape!
This is an amazing property up in the mountains of Carmel Valley. It was a great escape and exactly what my family needed. I didn’t realize at the time when I booked this property that there is Carmel Village, Carmel Valley and Carmel By The Sea. I was thinking all 3 places were Carmel By The Sea. This property was about 45 minutes from the beach. Farther than I wanted it to be, but it all worked out. Will definitely look to stay there again in the future!
