Station Masters Cottage

Lovely property with plenty of space. It is right next to level crossing and railway (it is the Station Masters house after all!) with trains running from before 6am which is what we expected. House full of railway memorabilia and perfect for train enthusiasts.

Was not aware that one room was in a separate building

Beautiful cottage , well laid out, great bathrooms (3 en suite) easy to find, well provisioned kitchen, good appliances, nice touches with providing tea coffee milk welcome bottle of wine Good responses from owner while at the property Comfy beds with lovely white linen except kids Thomas themed bunk room - also comfy beds but not really ideal for adults The trains are a little noisy but not too frequent and it's the station Masters cottage and part of the experience - I didn't realise blakedown station right next door is still active and that was very convenient for some of our party to depart - but the details could have mentioned this on Booking.com so we knew up front - maybe they did and I missed them.

Whilst good for parking (2 spaces allocated behind the house) - the manual in the house says no parking in front as it's private although no other cars were parked there during our stay - not sure why parking not allowed at front and would be a slight pain if you had a 3rd or more cars - when we had someone visit I messaged owner and asked if ok to park for 2 hours and was told that is fine . Comms with owner during stay were great but I found the pre stay comms difficult because they are coming from booking.com and Sykes and an individual owner via email and text and hard to deal with multiple messages with too much blurb that wasn't relevant, plus an invitation to register and manage booking through Sykes engine which I didn't really want , and an access code for that (I think) that expired before I got around to trying it With all the messages I lost sight of what I needed and had to phone Sykes anyway . Also I never received reply to ask if early check in may be an option, but later for a message to tell them the check in time, put 6-7 (Surely obvious it was PM) but received a message saying "check in time rejected" with no explanation etc - I replied saying this is pm not am but no response - just a bit robotic and frustrating - all this said it was worth it for a wonderful stay! Just something that should be looked at Finally and no big deal but could ask about age of visitors and if not children could use plain bedding in the bunk room as Thomas the tank engine is a bit offputting!

Lovely home with cute touches. We will likely be back!
