Level short walk into town with many local amenities, Spar nearby. Quality appliances, Smeg kettle and toaster, thick bed linen, puffy duvet and comfortable mattresses. Host answered queries. Easy out of hours key pick up and drop off near the cinema. Perfect for doing the Round Robin trip. Bus stop very close. We came by train and it was fun taking the boat to Totnes on the return. Took taxi as uphill to Totnes station as it was 30 degrees! £6.

As others say, a musty smell that probably is ingrained in the plaster, however, disperses when you open the window or door. Steep stairs have grippey treads, are slightly ladder like but this is described in the details. Car parking is always a problem in Dartmouth but this property has a voucher for the park and ride. Bedrooms get very warm but fan/cooler provided (also has log burner for winter!). Note: The shower does not have a safety handle inside, and nowhere to store your soap and shampoo so floor gets very slippy. Be careful.

The House was well decorated and comfortable. The location was excellent. The cottage itself was mostly fantastic. Tasteful decor with lovely sofa, and upstairs nook. Adequate amenities in the kitchen and generally lovely. Everything was in good order and lovely personal touches all round the house.

I found the staircase was too steep. Having had a broken leg a couple of years ago, steep stairs freak me out. Taking my bags up and down the staircase was treacherous! I would not advise anyone elderly or with any mobility limitations to stay here. There was a strange smell when I arrived - wondered if it was a sanilav or plumbing issue, but it seemed to disappear day 2, or maybe I got used to it…not a big deal but just mentioning so that owners might investigate. My otherwise wonderful stay was disturbed by early Monday morning shouty builders and scraping, banging and knocking all day. Maybe removing a fireplace or knocking down a wall. I was due to work from home and that was impossible and ruined my stay really. Made worse by Sykes Cottages ignoring my emails and WhatsApp messages. I found the Sykes Cottages communication awful and probably would book a place that they were managing again.
