About this house rental

Driftwood

Driftwood is one of those places - both in form and function - that feels distinctly Maine. Maybe it’s the pristine waterfront location at the end of a winding, private road just a mile or two from Port Clyde. Or perhaps it’s the way the house itself feels, thanks to an abundance of windows, clean lines, and a true sense of peace and quiet. Whatever it is, Driftwood is everything a stay in Maine should be.

A full deck (new in 2024 with new deck furniture as well) is a great place to overlook the vast, saltwater St. George River makes this space as comfortable for two people as it is for six. The first floor is more or less an open-concept space, with a comfortable living room that flows easily into the dining area with seating for six. Access to the front deck is right here as well, where you'll find plenty of outdoor seating, a grill, and just about the nicest views you could ever want at any time of day. The galley-style kitchen includes a full-size gas stove and a dishwasher, and it's well-equipped for meal preparation.

The primary bedroom is also on this floor, tucked away at the back of the house in a sunny, spacious spot. Upstairs, find two more bedrooms, both of which are bright and sunny with beds close to the windows, so you can hear the water lap on the shore as you fall asleep.

The shore is easily accessible by a well-worn path - the owners of Driftwood report this area is just right for kayaking and paddleboarding. The villages of Port Clyde and Tenants Harbor are both within a few minutes' drive, with Sandy Drift Inn Beach minutes away as well.

We loved our stay! The home was beautiful, comfortable and lovely. Gorgeous views, well maintained home and we would love to return. Our only issues were that the deadbolt was jammed, and we couldn't enter the home via the front door - we had to use the door on the deck. We also encourage the owners to add better directions - the home is not well marked and the routing via GPS does not take you all the way to the address.

This home's best feature is the private back porch where you can view the most spectacular sunsets. The kitchen is also very well-stocked with just about every cooking and baking item you will need. The bedrooms were comfortable although one of twin beds need replacing. The water table was low so we had to space out our showers especially if we were doing a load of laundry.

This place is a gem. Right on the water, secluded, and has everything you need. I love to cook and the kitchen had everything we needed! Cozy, clean, plenty of room and you can tell the owners live their place and the community, great suggestions for where to eat and what to do. The only negative was that we couldn’t get our rented kayak in the water - couldn’t find a dock/put in and the rockers were slippery/a lot of seaweed. Super minor problem though - this place was AMAZING

Nice home in a beautiful location, but . . . Do the owners know how the property managers are caring for it? This is a nice home with a lovely view of the bay. It was nicely decorated with lots of amenities like books about the area, a record player, binoculars, kitchen supplies (Actually so many that it was hard to find things in haphazard drawers and pantry.) . . . But the house was only surface clean. If you looked in the corners or along the baseboards there was dirt, mildew, cobwebs and dead insects. One upstairs bedroom smelled of mildew and moth balls. We had to crack the windows all the time and buy a deodorizer. There were layers of dust and cobwebs on windows, the mantle, lights, picture frames, . . . Do the owners (or management service) know this is how the cleaning service is doing their job? When we arrived there was water in front of the washing machine. Boards had rotted on the deck. One was replaced while we were there with a short board that was a tripping hazard. Another was left with nails protruding out as another hazard. When we did call the management service, they acted like they cared, but never really took care of our requests. We honestly believe that the owners are proud of their home and should be. The problem is that they are either not there or do not see how it is being managed and cared for. This review is for the owners because they have a lovely spot, but a home that is gradually falling into disrepair due to lack of care.
