About this cabin rental

At the end of the county road is this very private and secluded guest casita that borders the 15,000 acre Truchas Land Grant. Views of the Rio Grande River Valley & Jemez Mountain range from the deck of the casita are breathtaking. Relax and unwind at this magical destination. Offering a range top and refrigerator, Toaster Oven, Kuerig coffeemaker and outdoor grill. Only one hour to Santa Fe or Taos. 40 minutes to Sipapu Skiing. Great hiking and photography. Nearby fishing opportunities. Your stay in Truchas will have you coming back year after year.
Please be reminded, one of our policies is "No Pets Allowed".
This small cabin (casita) is located in a very remote area of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range at 8000 elevation. We encounter field mice, rats, moles, chipmunks, squirrels, skunk, raccoons, bobcat, coyote, deer and elk, mountain lion and bears. We have seen all of these animals near and around our homes. We do contract with a local pest control company to help us mitigate the rodents and they conduct monthly checkups and bait the exterior and interior boxes.

We loved our stay in the Casita. Easy to find. Even though I am familiar with the mountain village of Truchas, I was not familiar with the location of the Casita. The directions were easy to follow to find this quaint little hideaway. Thank you Vicki. Athena and I loved our time there. We also had the best of Northern New Mexico dinner at Ranchos de Chimayo, within easy driving distance from the Casita. Nick & Athena

This place grew on us the more nights we stayed. The owner was easy to get a hold of and answered questions. The casita was as clean as expected for being in the middle of no where. My husband and I liked that the towels and bedding were cleaned without strong smelling scents, just nice and clean. The comforter was wonderful! The bed made you sink and roll to the middle, not enough support. The casita had a supply of dishes but not much cookware, we made do with what was provided. Plenty of coffee and tea was provided, many varieties to suite different tastes. Also, you have everything needed for toiletries and such. You should be prepared and expected to deal with spiders. We had them crawl on us the first few nights while sleeping and we were putting them outside daily. It was fun to see the cows and horses on the surrounding properties and we had a chipmunk that ran around the property. He was also on the roof and in the attic, so you'll hear him running and scratching around at night and during the day. The mountain views were wonderful if you look past the tree. The wifi is listed as 100+ mbps, but it is a cellular hot spot that got between 1 and 3.5 mbps. We were able to access the internet but video calls were completely frozen. Luckily there is plenty of reading materials. The TV has Netflix and prime video ready to go, which was nice to have. The heater works but instructions would have been helpful for us. This is a secluded place. You will be driving on back, winding mountain roads, with no real services around you, no gas or groceries. Expect to drive 45 minutes for any essentials and an hour for a real city (Santa Fe). This is an old shack. The Keurig and toaster oven looked new but you should be prepared for older items and things to be a bit creaky. I was impressed with the exceptionally reasonable cleaning fee but disappointed by the nightly rate. If the nightly rate would be reflective of what was provided my review overall would have been higher.
