Quatermain's 1920's Safari Camp – Amakhala Game Reserve

Firstly, the camp is all about the Game drives. I wasn’t interested in spas or fancy dinners. I wanted to spend time in the bush. And this camp is perfect for that. There are only 3 tents, so a maximum of 6 guests, which makes it a very personal experience. The three trail guides were excellent. They went the extra mile to make sure that we saw the game that we wanted, but we also learned about the signs that they were looking for in tracking the game, and their habits. Top class driving skills too! We also a bush walk and saw elephants on their level and learned a lot about the wider environment including the plants and insects (and poo!). The tents were very comfortable and each had a flushing wc, shower and hot tub. No electricity so everything is lit by romantic candle and gaslight.

From the moment you are met by a guide at the parking place the adventure begins. The drive through the reserve to camp gives you a taste of what is to come and you will already be able to appreciate some of its varied inhabitants. The camp itself has an intimate 1920’s style with its boma where you eat meals and a campfire. The guides share their obvious love of the environment and questions are welcomed about anything and everything. The whole set up makes Quatermain’s camp a memorable experience.

The peace, authentic, rustic feel, the hottub!!! The team who looked after us were truly exceptional and made a pricey special occasion into a magical and memorable experience, great value for money in the end.

Obviously it’s a 1920’s experience which they have leaned into. This was a great experience. It’s the staff are the real winners. They were so enthusiastic and knowledgeable and kind
