About this cottage rental

This one bedroom home Hale Nene is perfect for honeymooners, a special anniversary, or as a writer or artist's retreat. With a brand new queen-sized bed and sofa couch in the living room, it sleeps 2-4 guests comfortably. Max 4 guests. Reserve the Hale Palila cabin next door for larger groups!

The bathroom is complete with a shower, bathtub and laundry facilities for your convenience.

Equipped with a kitchenette, gas fireplace and small private deck, you can enjoy complete freedom and self-sufficiency while on your holiday.

There is also a shared large shared deck with BBQ, outdoor dining area, patio furniture and a jacuzzi with views of the golf course and majestic Mauna Loa. The house is also equipped with free highspeed wifi, laptop-friendly workspace and cable television.

Stroll down the private streets near the golf course, and stay less than a half-mile from the heart of the village or take in some of the many sights of the island easily accessible from here. You'll be just 40 minutes from Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, where you may see turtles nesting and swimming, one and a half hours from from the City of Refuge, and only 40 minutes from historic and beautiful downtown Hilo with restaurants, shops, museums and nearby snorkeling beaches.

The couch was kind of uncomfortable, mouse droppings behind the lamp by the couch, and the drain to the shower/bath had to be manually held to release the water. These issues are all pretty fixable though. Other than that the location was lovely and pretty secluded. We didn’t have any neighbors other than the birds. We also appreciated that most of everything you’d need in the kitchen was there and on site laundry was available.

Cute A-frame in relaxing bushy setting. Hot tub was great, towels, condiments, well stocked kitchen. Second bed downstairs could be more comfortable. A few Bugs came into kitchen during the day, dealt with using spray provided. Can opener did not work. Fry pans were not non-stick.

Just one minor complaint: Need to fix the toilet. When we got there the flap was up and water was running into the toilet bowl--and obvious waste of water and bad for your septic system. The lift handle does not do a total flush. Had to push it down for 5-6 seconds. It's an easy fix with a new toilet kit from your local hardware store.

Hale Nene was the perfect location - just minutes from the gate of Hawaii Volcano National Park allowing easy access to go see the volcano erupting at a moments notice. Nice quiet neighborhood on a golf course with lovely landscaped yard. We enjoyed the nice warm hot tub on a shared deck in the evenings. Having a full laundry was wonderful mid-vacation. Comfy bed with plenty of extra blankets & heaters for staying warm on cool nights. Appreciated management's resolution of an issue with the internet. Kitchen was fairly well equiped, but could have used more serving/kitchen utensils (i.e. spatula, whisk, etc.) & basic paper products like paper towels & tussues would have been nice. Cleanliness could have been better as hot tub needed cleaned & area around toilet smelled of urine. Iver

Rented both cabins for my family and I. The cabin was cleaned and stocked well. The yard was great for the kids and the location was quiet and peaceful. Palila had a bigger kitchen and Nene has a bigger bathroom. A screen door on Palila side and sliding glass doors on Nene side were broken and the hot tub was poorly maintained. Other than that, we were really enjoying the property until a man arrived in the middle of our stay unannounced and started unloading supplies and working on the hot tub. I wasn't given any notice of his arrival and when I asked him to come back after we checked out he responded with needing to prep for the next guests and that it was the most convenient time for him. It was extremely uncomfortable and interrupted our access to the space for a few hours.

We really enjoyed the location and comfort of this cottage. It was very clean and well stocked with what we needed. The sliding door is broken, so we weren't able to make use of it, but the ability to use it would have made it even better. We hope to be back.

The house is a sweet little cottage right outside of the national park and was very cozy. It was just the right size for the four of us. The kitchen is tiny though and quite old. The sliding glass door was broken which made it a bit tough to get ventilation. We would have liked a bit more communication with the owner especially about checkout instructions and places to eat in the area since there are limited options. Otherwise it worked out great. Have visited Volcano many times over the past 25 years.The pictures were a bit confusing as there are 2 side by side units and the pictures weren't accurate. The Wi-Fi didn't work as well as the volume control on the remote. The kettle on stove is burned and probably should be replaced. The lamp beside the bed upstairs on left did not work. We managed to figure out how to work the wall heater but instructions would have helped. We would return as the location is great and we love Volcano.

Cozy and well outfitted. This was a cute A-frame with plenty of kitchen supplies, plenty of towels for showers and hot tub and even a towel warmer!. It was situated very close to Volcanoes National Park in a quiet neighborhood of what appeared to be other vacation rentals but was visually secluded from them. Beautiful yard . We were fortunate not to have anyone staying in the other A -frame until the last night of our stay, so we had the hot tub to ourselves.Negatives: The house has an old smell to it- the carpet, maybe -- but we didn't notice it after the first night. Because of the A-frame design with a bedroom loft, the heat for every room but the bathroom goes upstairs , It was difficult to keep the living room and kitchen warm but there were plenty of blankets for cozying up. Also, the volume button on the TV remote didn't seem to work. We couldn't turn the volume up . Overall we had a very nice stay and liked being so close to the National Park.

Great location very close to Volcano National Park, but the house needs cleaning and maintenance. The back sliding door is broken and does not lock, kitchen cabinets smell so moldy I did not want to use what was in them. Bathroom smelled like urine.

The location of this property can't be beat, but the cabin needs work. The host provided great instructions to find this nicely secluded space so close to Volcanoes National Park. However, when we first opened the door, the mildew smell was overpowering and my allergies reacted badly. I suspect it was the carpet as it felt damp. It was chilly in the room, but some of the space heaters provided did not work. We turned on the fan and had it running all day, but the mildew smell remained very strong. We also tried to use the hot tub, but it was luke warm and cloudy. There were three large windows facing the hot tub deck, but only one had a blind, so anyone from the other cabin could see into ours.

Overall the place was fantastic, and exceeded my expectations. There were only a few minor things I could mention. Owner should probably replace the floor heaters and fix the sliding glass door to the patio. In addition, it would be nice if there was a n outside light near the jacuzzi and if we were able to completely remove the jacuzzi cover. Again very minor. One last thing was there was no coffee filters or sugar, but again there were very minor and we had no issues working around that. Washer and dryer were a nice bonus!

We really enjoyed our time here. Cabin is on a residential road next to a golf course, surrounded by ohia trees. It was very quiet in terms of human noise, but we woke every morning to bird song which was wonderful! It gets chilly at night at that elevation but the cabin was well-stocked with blankets (including a heated one), space heaters, and towel warmers in the bathroom. Our daughter slept downstairs on the fold-out couch and we slept upstairs-the loft has a short wall that affords some privacy. Loved having a washer and dryer on site and a full kitchen. Entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes NP is an easy 7-8 min drive. Would absolutely stay here again!

This was a great property for a family of four to use as a base for exploring Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The location was close by and we were able to easily come back for lunch. The property itself is comfortable with a well-equipped kitchen and spacious living room and bathroom. The fold-down futon might be small for an adult but it was the perfect size for smaller kids. I would definitely stay here again!

Pro: SUPER close to the entrance of Hawaii National Volcano Park, which was our reason for renting this property. Con: The description of the property does include that there is a “shared deck”, but it doesn’t state how close the units actually are. Both units have multiple windows that face the shared deck, meaning you can see into each others units. Only 1 of 4 windows along that entire wall have blinds. The shared deck also allowed for the other renters to stand directly outside of our unit and look into our windows. Blinds on the other windows would help this issue TREMENDOUSLY.

Inadequate heating. Circuit breaker trips when 2 heaters are plugged in. Bathroom is very smelly. Bathroom door needs to be closed at all times to avoid stinking up the whole place. We don’t mind the furniture and furnishings being old and outdated but the whole place just looks unkempt and untidy.
