Ocean Front House in Cook's Harbour Newfoundland

Lighthouse area was very cool and the paths around the beach

You get a good feel for a small outlying fishing village and the climate/habitat in the far north of Newfoundland-just the kind of experience I look for when traveling. We stayed in the upstairs of a good sized house, while the owner lived below. It was actually very helpful as he updated us on weather conditions etc., even brought us moose burgers that he cooked on his wood stove when power in the area went out. The house is very comfortable, the kitchen is fully equipped. The large window in the living room gives you a view of the harbour, and the back deck and windows an expansive view with the Cape Norman lighthouse in the distance.

We had cold rainy weather so we couldn't get out to walk around the harbour - and it was too wet to drive to the lighthouse (gravel/dirt road). Just how nature works - no reflection on the accommodations at all. We also did not see any gas station in the community - you have to plan ahead to make sure you have what you need before you get there. There is a very small convenient store next door, but not a full grocery store.

Very clean. Clyde was very helpful. Definitely off the beaten path which added to its appeal. Cape Norman lighthouse and North Boat Harbour deserve a visit. Grocery store is next door with almost everything one needs except wine which is only sold in Liquor Express store in St Anthony’s (35min away)

No local restaurants so one must drive to St Anthony or L’Anse aux Meadows for dinner. Best to avoid driving at night as it’s very dark and wild life can be unpredictable.

Host was great to deal with. Lodging was very clean and well kept, kitchen was great, a coffee supply was greatly appreciated for morning coffee. Easily accommodated our party of 5 adults.
