VALENTINE'S RICE BOWL HOME STAY

We loved this place. We had booked for 2 nights and we wish we could have stayed longer ! Valantine is an amazing person, kind, always trying to help you and please you, and he speaks English well. His property is really nice, along a small canal, among the rice fields, very calm and peaceful, with a lot of birds. We stayed in a small house in the garden with a terrace with a view on the canal. House was simple but clean. (A new house will be available soon and we could visit it : it's going to be as good as a four star hotel bedroom!) We ate here for all the meals : he perfectly adapted the food to our taste (lactose intolerant and not spicy), everything is fresh, tasty and made to explore the local cuisine. We did the guided tour in his traditional canoe at dawn, really nice experience. He also lend us his small canoe for us to try to kayak in the canals (not so easy but fun to try). He's very happy to show you his country and his culture.

No hot shower, but it's not such a problem with the temperature here

I stayed at Valentine Homestay for 4 days as a solo female traveler. The host was Very attentive and protective, he picked me up from Alleppey to make my arrival easier and dropped me at a good place to take the ferry to Alleppey. I stayed in a simple room away from the main house. The village is friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed morning and evening walks along the canals, where there is plenty of birdlife, such as chestnut headed bee eaters, open bill storks, various kingfishers and many more. The WiFi was strong and reliable. Food was plentiful and delicious. Easy boat access at 7:15 AM to Edathua for church/temple visits (return later) boats go to Champakulam too where you can visit the oldest church in Kerala.

Valentine is a great host, that genuinely wants to help and give the best experience to his guests. The rural location is perfect for some peaceful days

The rented apartment was less clean than expected

We hebben 2 fantastische dagen gehad bij Mr. Valentine. Als je op zoek bent naar een plek tussen de lokale bevolking, rijstvelden en de afgelegen delen van de backwaters zonder andere toeristen; dan is dit top. Valentine neemt je op sleeptouw en denkt graag met je mee, is super gastvrij en zorgt ervoor dat je niks te kort komt inclusief heerlijke en uitgebreide maaltijden.

Je slaapt in een eigen ‘villa’, deze is wat verouderd en basic uitgerust dus wees je hier bewust van.
