Convenience clean and Dalia very helpful excellent!

Spotlessly clean, modern and well-equipped apartment close to the Lido, with a nice view of the sea from the living room balcony. A Juliet balcony in the bedroom offered a contrasting view over rooftops and trees towards the mountains. It was a very pleasant environment to spend a week in Funchal - and useful to have a bus stop right opposite the building entrance (though be careful when crossing the road!) The reception staff at Monumental Plaza were very friendly and welcoming, and I enjoyed chatting to them every day. All in all, therefore, a good place to stay.

The traffic noise was louder than I’d expected - I hadn’t realised how busy the road was. People booking here should also be aware of the ultra-strict deposit policy - 3 euros for each piece of cutlery that goes missing! I can understand the need to be vigilant with groups of unruly young people, but as a professional middle-aged man I found it all a bit demeaning as every single piece of equipment was counted and examined. They even inspected my bed sheets on departure! But I took it all in good grace - it must be annoying when thoughtless guests lose things and create a mess.

I stayed in the studio and it was very comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped and had a terrace. Good WiFi as well as I worked remotely. Staff were friendly and kind. Bus station, supermarkets, shops restaurants nearby overall really good experience.

The apartment was bright and new, with a comfortable bed and two balconies, which we appreciated. The location is convenient, with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby.

The most unpleasant part was the check-out process: a staff member came into the room and started inspecting everything in detail — checking if the appliances worked, counting every piece of cutlery, dishes, hangers, towels, etc. It felt like an inspection, not a check-out. Very unwelcoming and uncomfortable. Room cleaning was done only once during a 7-night stay, and there were no basic cleaning tools like a broom or mop, so we had no way to clean up ourselves. Guests are also expected to take out their own trash, which is unacceptable for a hotel. Frying pan was very old and scratched. It definitely needs to be replaced. They also require a €70 cash deposit at check-in. Parking in the garage costs €5 per day, and the garage is extremely narrow — very difficult to use if you have a larger car. They also require guests to provide an exact arrival time, as there is no staff permanently on-site for check-in. This can be quite inconvenient and adds extra stress for travelers.
