Beit Petra

Nice quiet place in the backyard at a market square of a small village uphill. The area is not "touristy", the square and the tavern is crowded with locals. Still it is only a 2 mile walk downhill to small nice beaches. The house is an old townhouse that is beautifully renovated with skill and taste. The interior is nicely decorated. The house has a lot of space, two floors and a gallery on the top floor, two balconies, a patio and a large garden with a view of the sea over olive groves. Very nice! This is a place you can stay, relax, or (sometimes) work. The proprietor is a very kind and helpful lady who cared a lot that everything was fine and that we fell comforable. We received a lot of groceries on welcome, had fresh flowers every couple of day. We always got help or directions and a lot of tips where to go on Crete. There is a lot of decoration and lots of soaps and goodies for the bathroom, even insect repellant in every room, jsut as an example for the many details that made us happy.

There ist one litte point that should be mentioned, and that is that only one sleeping room has door. The other is open space. We did not care but others might do. Nothing else that comes into my mind that was not perfect...

Das alte Steinhaus war super renoviert und geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Yasmine hat sich sehr freundlich um uns gekümmert. Sie hatte mehrere Willkommensgaben für unsere Ankunft vorbereitet ( frische Erdbeeren und Blumen und leckeres Gebäck ). Wir freuten uns über die uns von ihr gegebenen Tipps.

The property was in a small town, just outside of the main town of Chania, with easy access into town. Set slightly back from the main road, the entrance is secluded but has parking nearby. The house itself is stunning. It has been refurbished to a high standard, whilst keeping a classical style and feels comfortable yet luxurious to stay in. The rooms are of generous size and it fitted our family of four comfortably, for a week stay. The courtyard is lovely with several seating areas and plenty of outside room also with a beautiful lemon tree which enhances the views of the hillside. From the balconies upstairs you can also see the sea. The host was exceptionally helpful and provided us with some lovely recommendations of where to visit in the local area and was quick to respond to any queries.

Some of the garden furniture would benefit from being upgraded but there was plenty of choice of seating areas. One of the areas with a drop had a bit of a gap which could potentially be hazardous to younger children.

We spent three weeks in this beautiful house and felt like home. The first week we worked on site. The wifi is good for this and we had no problems. After that we spent two weeks on vacation and the house was the perfect place to explore the island from. We rented a car for this purpose. However, since it also rained a few days, we were able to enjoy the house to the fullest. It is super cozy and we have made ourselves comfortable more often with a glass of wine on the sofa or in the bathtub. Since we are vegetarian/vegan we have also often cooked at home. The kitchen is super equipped and we have lacked nothing. In the beautifully arranged garden there are lemons, zucchini, tomatoes, basil and much more, which is available for free consumption. The highlight - besides the garden - are of course the two balconies from which you can see the sea, sunbathe and watch the sunset. The area (Daratsos) is nice and quiet and in front of the house is a square where you can park. There is also directly a small food market and Nikos tavern, which is recommended. Every three days the house is cleaned and the towels are changed. Overall, BeitPetra can be recommended 100% and we will remember this dream trip forever.

You can't really talk about not liking anything about the house. However, after the first two nights we moved from the large double bed to the two single beds pushed together, because on the one hand the mattress is extremely soft and the double bed squeaked when turning. But that can be easily fixed for sure.
