Lovely, modern cottage in the heart of Morpeth. We spent Christmas there, using it as a base to visit relatives. It was cosy and comfortable and made our stay feel really festive and special.
Nothing about the house at all!
It’s worth mentioning though that there’s no allocated parking. This made unloading our very packed car a bit more challenging. There are however free car parks nearby but they are a walk away. Not a problem if you’re not laden with Christmas gifts. Fortunately a lovely neighbour allowed us to park briefly on their drive as we loaded to leave.

A lovely, comfortable little cottage that provided a welcome retreat during a busy work trip to Morpeth and Newcastle. Well equipped and peaceful. The beautiful Christmas decorations in the living room made for a festive stay!
I was lucky to get parked on the street outside, but there are also several free car parks very close by if the street is busy, including Grey’s Yard, which is tucked away on the same side of Oldgate as the cottage, directly opposite Skin & Co.
Just took a few minutes to find, as it was very dark when I arrived, and the satnav showed it as the pet shop! It’s just after the pet shop, through the metal gates; and the last cottage on the left.

Amazing location, right in centre with everything you need around you but very quiet at the property itself.
The cottage itself was better than expected, the pictures are amazing but it was so cosy and homely, it really felt as if we were at home there! The Christmas tree and decorations were a lovely addition we didn't expect but welcomed and the bath in the master bedroom ... it needs a try if you visit!
Couldn't fault our stay and would happily come back next time we visit Morpeth, thank you!
Nothing, thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

The property was quite cold, but the heating was efficient

Great location, lovely comfy house
A dedicated parking space would be useful, but we always managed to get in to the nearby parking area mentioned to us by Jasmin, but had we not bumped into her we wouldn't have known about this and the on-road resident bays were always full.

We had a wonderful stay at The Secret Cottage! The property offered plenty of space, making it incredibly comfortable and cosy. Its central location was a huge plus, with easy access to the river and a nearby kids' park. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the bathroom facilities were excellent.
Travelling with our toddler required some quick baby-proofing, but that was to be expected. Fortunately, there was ample room for her to play and explore. The kitchen was well-equipped with all the cooking utensils we needed, and we appreciated the thoughtful touches like a dog bowl and biscuits for our furry friend.
The cottage is lovely in a beautiful town and only a 35-minute drive to Alnwick Castle.
Overall, a fantastic experience!
One minor drawback was the parking situation. While there are a few spaces on the road outside the property, they are taken instantly. We discovered a small car park, Grey's Yard Carpark, which was a real lifesaver, but don't let that put you off!

The whole property was absolutely lovely! Really peaceful and relaxing. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen really well equipped. Everything clean.
Close by EV chargers, all the shops you need in town, nice walk through the park.
Only a couple of small things - the tap in the kitchen and bath were wobbley and moved around when you used them.
And one thing out of the owners control - one day parking on the street was difficult - but parked close by in the car park over night so not a big deal.

The cottage is ideally located within the busy market town of Morpeth. The town is absolutely beautiful and caters well to my wife and me; as well as her parents. There are plenty of local dog walks around Morpeth as well.
The cottage is very well presented and has excellent amenities to cater to a family staying in the Cottage. The freestanding bath was a definite highlight of the cottage. My wife and mother-in-law enjoyed having a relaxing bath. However, they did say that the raised platform caused a bit of concern when exiting the bath due to the proximity to the bed.
You can travel to all the local tourist areas with relative ease and car parking spaces are available if you return around dinner time.
The bed with the bunk attached is not suitable for a couple to share due to the lack of headroom due as the proximity of the bunk is positioned above the bed. There are pictures of a very modern coffee machine listed in the pictures on Booking.com but this was nowhere to be seen when we arrived; as a coffee enthusiast, this was very disappointing.
The parking situation 5 something that could be improved. The short and long stay car parks are a good 5-10 minute walk from the cottage and the locals are not very hospitable; as they position their wheelie bins in a way to ensure that you cannot park near their homes (this renders the council permit useless).

Location was fantastic, cottage was very homely and comfortable.

The Secret Cottage is beautifully decorated and very clean. It is located very centrally in Morpeth, just off the main street and also very close to the lovely river walks.
We had a great couple of nights at The Secret Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would highly recommend the property. Jasmin, the owner, was very helpful and responsive to any questions.

Good central location
The fridge needed a good clean, milk rings, which is a bit off putting. Back of fridge needs a clean.
Found it difficult to manoeuvre round bed due to the bath in the room. Second bed for our son was not comfortable.
7.0 / 10.0
Location excellent
Rear door extremely difficult to open and close
No cushions for outdoor seating
Tap in downstairs bathroom trickles when on
Kitchen tap virtually hanging off the worktop all these need addressing

Good central location
The property needs a good thorough deep clean. It was very dusty with lots of cobwebs everywhere. The carpet was covered in dog hairs and everywhere felt generally grubby. We had to wipe down all surfaces and hoover through when we arrived. The whole bottom floor stunk of drains - hits you the moment you enter the property. Only 4 large plates when 5 people were staying. Mattress very thin.

Its location is really handy, loved the big bath too!
The TV in bedroom wasn’t working.
There are quite a few cobwebs… for us as. Family of 5 the second bedroom was too small.
Would be great to have cushions for outdoors - although one seat needs fixed.
Great if clock worked in living room.
Extra blankets would have been helpful, as one ended up on the couch.

Positives:
The cottage looks great on pictures + at first glance - lovely decor and quirky features.
It's situated in Morpeth centre, so it's close to shops and facilities.
Negatives:
The towels, pillows + mattress are very cheap/low quality. Other people have commented on this also + it's obviously not been changed. Just simple better quality upgrades would improve the experience massively. The bed was so uncomfortable we didn't end up staying our 2nd night. There were only bath towels, no hand towels so you had to dry your hands, face + body with the same towel.
The downstairs bathroom has no blind so you feel very exposed when showering. Again others have commented on this + nothing has been done.
The place didn't feel hugely clean - the dishes were grotty, things felt sticky, the feature light in the bedroom was thick with dust, there were cobwebs all over the fake plants in the bathroom, the 'wood' panels were all peeling and grotty.
The parking was difficult. It's on street near to the property (you can't park outside the cottage as it's down a passage which we didn't realise & it took us a while to find it). It wasn't explained properly in the instructions + when other people asked the owner if you can park outside they had said yes. You can't. We struggled to get anywhere in the area on the Saturday afternoon + had to circle several times.
The main bedroom is a tight squeeze with the bath plinth right next to the bed + the bed right next to the wall. You have to shuffle round the bed to get in + we bashed our feet multiple times.
The TV in the bedroom was switched off at the plug which was about 10 feet in the air so we couldn't reach to turn it on, meaning it was unusable. It's also way too big for the space - making it an even tighter squeeze past the bed.
There is a church nearby which chimes a short tune every 15 minutes all night long.

Location was great.
Town and area are lovely
The tap was broken in the bath, and we were only staying two nights and hadn't used it the first night.
I rang to get it fixed but as we had to be out by 10 the next day it was a bit pointless, the maintenance guy did come out the next day but unfortunately couldn't fix it and said he needed to get a plumber.
Maybe these basic things should be checked before guests arrive. I was really disappointed as this is one of the things that had sold it us.
Also there are literally only two towels in the whole of place !

Lovely place to stay, great location. Good facilities. The fire is an amazing feature to a comfortable front room. Lovely touches for Christmas such as a tree and decorations.
It would have been good to have a hoover, as it's difficult to keep the place clean without one.

Beautiful location, cosy decor & log burner to enjoy.
Nothing was unlikable, however the master bed was a bit short for anyone 5’7 or above due to the foot rail and the mattress was very soft with no support at all I would recommend a medium/firm.
The lack of logs is a bit disappointing I did read they were available when booking and Netflix etc being shown in the photographs online but not being available is also a little deceptive but nothing major.

The location was very good, in the heart of Morpeth. Cottage was very easy to find.
The property would have been very cosy for 5 people but for a couple ideal.

Lovely location, decor was lovely. Clean
Bed was very soft, we rolled into each other all night. The duvet was very stained in the main bedroom. The mattress protector in the second room was stained. The window in second room was too difficult to close. On our last night it was cold and stormy, but there were no logs to use in the wood burner, so we had to Google the thermostat so we could use the heating. When the ensuite toilet flushed, the wall in the kitchen got wet. For over £500 for 4 nights, to have to strip the beds and put all the used items in the bath just seemed a little bit much

Beautiful cottage. Perfect base for our wee day trip to Alnwick, and a lovely park with a giant paddling pool for the kids just around the corner. Thanks 😊

Cottage was absolutely beautiful. It was cosy, comfortable and the bath was heaven.
Decor was unreal, you could easily live there!
Shower downstairs so no ones waiting around for the bath.
Gorgeous kitchen to cook in, plenty plates, cups utensils etc.
Parking was a bit tricky if there wasn't a space outside. But we were left a permit and plenty instructions as to were to find a space. We got in lucky and there was a space available outside. There was nothing to dislike about the cottage.
Also we were away for most of our stay so parking wasn't an issue.

The cottage was lovely.
The village it is situated in has lots to do.
Perfect for a small family with younger kids.
Overall really nice and well decorated
It felt smaller than what I thought.

Lovely attractive cosy cottage in a perfect central position in Morpeth. Also easy to catch bus to Newcastle. Excellent downstairs shower.
Towel rail/hooks, toilet roll holder, a little shelf in the upstairs loo would help, also shelf under bedroom mirror and a washing up bowl in kitchen
