It’s such a lovely, quiet and intimate place, it’s ideal to relax and immerse yourself in the warmness of the sun and nature. It was the best breakfast my family and I have eaten in any hotel that we had stay, also, shout out to the receptionist Steven, he was extremely helpful, kind, friendly, and overall amazing, such a cool personality to match such a cool place!

The pool is fantastic—refreshing, clean and surrounded by a shady, breezy lounge area that became one of our favorite places to relax. The breakfast was also delicious, with three choices each day: Gourmet, Nicaraguan or Continental (yes, you have to order by prior evening). The property provides a large bottle of purified drinking water, which was very convenient. Apartment kitchen fully stocked with all the appliances. Comfortable bed, hot shower. ALL staff were friendly and helpful. Steve, the weekend receptionist, was especially welcoming, and Monica, who was in charge during the week, was responsive to our problems. They have a laundry service, which was very convenient with pickup and drop-off available. Hotel arranged for Juan the driver to take us to Masaya and to Leon. He stayed until we were able to get into our Airbnb. A nice extra extra level of service because it was difficult to locate. The property is also exactly as advertised when it comes to not having a TV. We actually liked that and didn’t miss having one. We were happy to unplug—but reliable Wi-Fi is still important when you’re traveling and need to research restaurants, make plans, book reservations, hail a ride share, etc.
Wi-Fi was our biggest issue. This was particularly frustrating because the apartment itself is a lovely place to stay, but we sometimes had to sit in the humid common-area courtyard just to get a usable Wi-Fi connection. Had we known, perhaps we would’ve NOT paid more and just reserved a room closer to the main courtyard. We don’t expect lightning-fast internet everywhere in Nicaragua, but we know fast Wi-Fi is possible in Granada because nearby restaurants had excellent connections (Hogs Breath Saloon, for example!) The AC was another problem. The air conditioners are older and take quite a while to cool the apartment because of the humidity. The living room AC started making a very strange noise, eventually froze up and had to be thawed and checked. After it was supposedly fixed, water began pouring out out again even though we turned it off while we were gone and hadn’t changed the settings. Eventually, it was off more than it was on, so as not to cause more problems. There were ceiling fans and a standup fan that subbed in. There were also almost-daily power outages during our 10-day stay. It got extremely hot inside quickly, so we would have to leave and return later, hoping the power would come back. We understand that power outages can happen, but combined with the AC problems, the heat made these outages particularly difficult. A few smaller things also could use attention: the bathroom door was difficult to close, there was no blanket provided (just a sheet) so we borrowed the bedspread from the other bed, and there is no full-length mirror. The safe initially appeared to be stuck, although we eventually figured out that the key only works in one direction—and requires a little finesse. The bottom line: There is a lot to love about Secret Garden. The setting is beautiful, the pool is wonderful, breakfast is excellent, and the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful.
