Wonderful home stay, beautiful location, authentic experience

The rooftop terrace was beautiful and a very fun place to chill at! the location is about an hour walk from the center/30 minutes by bus, but transportation is good and it was easy to move around. I loved staying in a more local area. The family was lovely and I felt very welcomed. Ever had great recommendations for places worth checking out, especially nice walking trails, and was always available to answer my questions. It felt more like staying with friends rather than a hostel and it was a great way to get to know the Oaxacan culture and the area. I really enjoyed my stay!

It is a relatively small place and the atmosphere is more quiet. It worked perfectly for me but worth considering if you're a solo traveler looking to socialize.

Casa Donaji and the family that run it, are absolutely fabulous. It is worth meeting them.

I loved the family that runs this guest house. They are all incredibly helpful, and super nice. My husband had recently passed away, and I came to Oaxaca for Dia Los Muertes to honour him. Unfortunately I had an unexpected health crisis, which was a little frightening travelling alone as an older person. Elu took me under her wing, and took me to the Dr, and once I was better took me to a bank, until I was able to manage on my own. An Alter was made on their beautiful terrace for Dia Los Muertes and I was invited to put a photo of my husband on it. It was such an honour to spend time with this lovely Mexican family, and I will keep in touch with Elu. While I was unwell, Elu made meals for me. Because of my health issues, I sadly had to leave earlier than I had planned, but hope one day to be back.

I would normally have not stayed so far out, when travelling on my own, but I would have missed the chance to meet this wonderful family. At first, I didn't particularly like the thought of the bus ride into town, but I actually saw a lot and met a lot of people. I didn't particularly like having to take a taxi so far home at night, but in the big picture it was a small thing.

Lovely hosts and phenomenal views

We loved this place! Me and my sister came here for the start of our trip and we were welcomed so warmly by the owners. The rooms and kitchen are clean and comfy. The view from the roof terrace is GORGEOUS and we appreciated all the cacti plants decorating it. Also the owners are so helpful and responsive. Highly recommend!

The only con is it's not in the city centre. However we found getting buses in and out really easy and I'm sure taxis would be cheap too.

Worth the bus ride to city center!

the property is an amazing compound with lots of spread out spaces for individuals to hang out. The view is just as great as the pictures they show. My partner and I slept deeply and well each night. The hosts are so sweet and helpful. My group didn’t speak spanish much at all, but they still emphasized speaking with us even with the headache of translation apps. They shared local type of taco, drink, and fruit with us, we truly did get that local experience staying there. I got extremely ill the last two days we were at the property, and they were gracious checking in on me and other amazing details. I also had a final exam to do and they helped us get papers printed off. 10/10 generous.

Not much to dislike! The other couple said their bed was a little stiff, but back home they have a soft bed so that’s a typical adjustment.

Greate hosts, very inviting people and open to share their experiece with travelers and give you details about their traditions. I had a very good coffee and conversation with them. Place is very clean and quite. I was able to rest during night time and got ready for my travel adventure the next day.

Just like staying with family

Casa Donaji was an absolute delight! The hosts were incredible and very attentive/ quick to respond to any questions we had. We were even greeted with the finest oaxacan coffee on arrival! The neighbourhood of volcanes is charming and you’ll find the best pizza just around the corner (shout out ilegal pizzeria) The rooftop terrace is beautiful, it boats the best view of oaxaca city! The location is a short taxi or bus ride to Centro, not inconvenient at all. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom is clean, shared kitchen is also great and clean, everything you need. We had a home cooked breakfast and coffee (delicious!) and were able to leave our luggage after check out while we went on a near by hike. We were treated like family at Casa Donaji, thank you!

The view was awesome, the kitchen was well equipped, beds were comfortable and the hosts were beyond wonderful, I think the family that owns the place is warm hearted and have printed their essence in every corner of the house, just lovely 🌹

not sure if the walls are thin or what's the reason, but it can be quite noisy as you can hear steps and doors opening and closing all over like it is happening next to your bed. Wasn't a big issue for us but probably a problem for light sleepers.

Amazing...

The house and terrace are so beautiful that you can work on the terrace with a view of the mountains. I can describe it as a very colorful stay.

The location is outside the downtown, but you can get around by bus or taxi. There's also a bit of street noise, especially in the mornings (of course, people have lives). However, all of this was anticipated by the host, and it wasn't a problem for me.

Came as a tourist, left as a friend!

Please don't expect a luxurious hotel, it is much better! It really depends what you like! I like staying at locations which are a litte off the beaten track, which are authentic! Try to find the real Mexico! Casa Donaji is like staying with family. In fact you are staying with a family just not your own! They go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The view from the roof terrace is probably on of the best you can get in Oaxaca! There is a National Park fairly close by, where you can go hiking. A lot of little Mon 'n Pop stores close by. Bus station 3 min walk away. Inexpensive food from the neighbours sold on the street. Elu (the Mom) prepares you a yummy breakfast if you ask her to! I was there for quite a few days and enjoyed it so much! Would and maybe will go back again. And Oaxaca de Juarez is a great city! Lots to do and to see! Muchas gracias por todo!

had a wonderful stay at this hotel that we decide to stay a few extra nights! the staff is literally the sweetest and the best!! everything is super clean sheets are comfortable and the kitchen is also gorgeous and super net ! would 100% recommend to anyone who is looking forward to coming to oaxaca city. they also have a super cute rooftop if you do remote work or just like to enjoy the view :)

The terrace was the best part of the hotel, as it provided a view of the mountains in Oaxaca. The neighborhood is quiet and calm.

I was the only guest for two nights, but then another guest arrived and they smoked some cigarettes outside, which permeated the rooms. I also wished my room had more natural night.

Lovely terrace, perfectly equipped kitchen, good location with easy links to the city centre. Perfect homestay-like stay with owners always happy to help.

The location is quiet, but a guy in a room next to us decided to work from midnight to 1 AM on a Zoom call and we could hear every word. We told him to be quieter and the owners apologised for him, and that was only one night out of the four we stayed there. Other than that, we had a lovely stay!

It was a pleasure staying at Casa Donaji, I highly recommend! The location is a bit further up the hill in the Volcanes district, so you’ll avoid the crowded city center. Elu was a great host, she helped us with getting taxis and the right buses and made awesome hot chocolate! The place has also a really nice terrace and everything was super clean and comfortable. There are some really good and cheap Taquerias nearby, also laundry shops, a pharmacy and small shops are just around the corner.

Public transport in Oaxaca stops at around 8pm. After that, you will need a taxi.
