This is like a combination of a traditional B&B and a hostel with private rooms. A good combination with the best of bost. Super friendly and helpful staff who speak English well. Comfortable room and beds with a good heater for cold nights. I’m an old man now and not a fan of shared bathrooms, but the bathrooms here are clean and large enough to accommodate everyone even when the B&B is full. And the free onsen is great after a day of hiking. It has a very nice common area where you can hang out with friends. I didn’t have opportunity to try anything from the bakery but other guests said it was great. They have a kitchen where you can cook your own meals and they have some food available for purchase if you don’t bring your own: instant noodles, pasta and packaged pasta sauces. It’s a good location if you want to be in nature and have a car. It’s only a 15 minute drive to the Sawando bus terminal which is the best place to catch the bus to Kamikōchi coming from this direction. I did see other guests using the local bus which stops right at the B&B but I don’t know how convenient it is. Maybe it’s great. 🤷‍♂️ Overall I really liked the environment, comfort level, convenience and general ambience of Tengallonhat. I will gladly return if I visit the area again.

Gezellige en sfeervolle B&B met ruime kamer en alles is schoon. Behulpzaam personeel en lekker bakkertje erbij. Bedden sliepen prima. Prachtige omgeving!

Wij hadden wel wat last van het geluid van de generator, die denk ik onder ons kamer stond. Maar uiteindelijk went dat ook en slaap je er wel doorheen

Nous avons passé deux nuits dans ce petit hôtel à l’ambiance chaleureuse et atypique. La décoration, avec ses nombreux petits objets et instruments de musique, lui donne beaucoup de caractère ! L’accueil de la propriétaire et de son fils, qui parle un anglais impeccable, a été particulièrement sympathique. Tous deux ont été très disponibles et serviables, notamment pour nous aider à résoudre des soucis avec une autre réservation Booking. Nous avons aussi beaucoup apprécié les échanges avec eux. Notre chambre était spacieuse et agréable, avec des lits confortables et un petit lavabo. Les deux onsen que l’on peut privatiser sont un vrai plus pour se détendre après une journée de découverte ! Des douches et des toilettes sont disponibles à plusieurs endroits, ainsi qu’un sauna accessible. Une petite kitchenette permet de cuisiner, avec la possibilité d’acheter quelques produits de dépannage sur place. Nous avons également apprécié les pizzas et les biscuits de la pâtisserie du fils de la propriétaire, juste à côté. Un petit-déjeuner est proposé, mais nous ne l’avons pas testé. On peut se garer facilement sur place et l’hôtel se trouve à proximité du terminal de bus de Sawando, pratique pour rejoindre Kamikochi. Une adresse pleine de charme, avec un bon rapport qualité-prix, que nous recommandons chaleureusement pour un séjour dans les Alpes japonaises !

Tengallonhat is like a hug from home. It is wonderful to come back from a hike in the beautiful area, have a beer and a pizza, and soak in the tub. It take awhile to get here from Matsumoto so plan accordingly.
