Sunset Luxury Suite - Rooftop Apartment in the City Center

Heaven on Earth Truly divine, that is how you could describe this apartment. Beautifully renovated: sleek design with lots of light wood and beautiful tiled flooring, a modern and super large terrace where you can relax wonderfully on new garden furniture under a wooden canopy that protects against sun and rain, and a cozy little balcony on the other side where you can watch the unforgettably beautiful sunsets, provided it isn't too windy. With the air conditioning on and the shutters closed, it is pleasant to spend time in the living room on the sofa in front of a large TV, even on hot days. You truly lack nothing in this spotless apartment: good beds in a spacious bedroom with a TV, plenty of closet space and slippers, a fully equipped kitchen where absolutely everything has been thought of, a large fridge with a beer inside, and plenty of napkins, paper towels, dishwashing and cleaning supplies in the kitchen cupboards. You name it, it is there, including a bottle of red wine and all kinds of non-perishable food items. The bathroom, on the other hand, is fairly small, but also very complete, with a washing machine, plenty of toilet paper, and even sewing supplies in the vanity unit. The shower is modern and versatile with all kinds of jets, which all work perfectly. There are plenty of towels, which are even refreshed periodically by the hospitable and extremely friendly and helpful owner, who spares no expense to make you feel at ease. He comes up the stairs himself several times to deliver pastries and a CD with Greek music to the door. What a heavenly experience in this beautiful apartment: we would go back tomorrow in a heartbeat.

You do have to climb about five spacious stone flights before you reach the apartment. For us over 65, that is quite a challenge at first, especially with luggage. However, it is good practice for walking in the rest of the city, which isn't exactly flat. The apartment is located on a small, quiet, narrow street that looks a bit run-down by Dutch standards. But everything is super safe; you don't have to be afraid of anything, you really live among the locals. You will also have to get used to the regular airplane noise, which continues all day until late at night, because Heraklion Airport is a very busy airport with as many as a hundred flights a day. It is also advisable to bring a good, detailed digital city map (for example from Google), because one paper version cannot be found anywhere in Heraklion, even after repeated searching. The tourist office has been closed for ages, and in the shops you can at most get a very superficial paper map of the sights, which is absolutely inadequate for finding your way through the many narrow streets with unpronounceable Greek names. You quickly get completely lost if you are looking for a small supermarket or the central bus station.

Giannis and Stavroti were the perfect hosts for our week long stay in their fabulous apartment. We have said if we ever return to Heraklion , this is where we will stay again. Any questions were answered immediately and their hospitality extended to a lovely welcome hamper, on another day they arrived with a box of delicious Greek pastries, provided us with a CD of Cretan music and sorted out our taxi to get to the port at the end of our stay. The property was exceptional !!! Very spacious, clean, extremely well stocked, fabulous shower, washing machine and drying rack, 2 decks with ocean views, 2 coffee machines, A/C, and short walk to Old Town for endless restaurants and shopping. The hosts went above and beyond our expectations, they were very kind, giving, and responsive. I would give this property a 15 out of 10 if I could. We would definitely recommend this property and stay here again!
