Lamandau House

We stayed at Lamandau House from 16–22 June for my partner's birthday and booked the Junior Suite with Balcony on the second floor. We chose Lamandau House because it was away from the busy Blok M streets, yet close enough to walk (10–15 minutes) to Blok M Plaza and the surrounding food scene without dealing with Jakarta's traffic. Right beside the property is Ayodya Park, which comes alive every evening with families, friends and plenty of roadside stalls selling local favourites. GrabCars and GrabMart were also very convenient. The room was exactly as pictured—clean, spacious and perfect for a longer stay. The separate living area with a work desk, sofa bed and storage made it comfortable. The bedroom was cosy with softer pillows, while the bathroom was spacious with excellent water pressure. A mini fridge, kettle, toiletries and complimentary hot/cold water dispenser were all provided. The only small downsides were limited luggage space and a noticeable mothball smell in the bathroom, though we'd much rather that than unpleasant drainage odours. A lovely surprise was the friendly neighbourhood cat that occasionally visited our balcony for a nap. It definitely made our stay even more memorable. The staff were exceptional. Despite a slight delay during check-in, everyone was warm, attentive and incredibly responsive throughout our stay. They helped carry our luggage upstairs and even assisted with our 5am checkout without hesitation. If you're a light sleeper, note that rooms facing the park may be noisier at night, while Sunday mornings around 6am can be lively due to park exercise activities with music and announcements. Overall, Lamandau House offers fantastic hospitality, a comfortable stay and an excellent location. We'd gladly stay here again on our next trip to Jakarta.

The hotel is so aesthetically pleasing and the staff were very sweet, friendly and very accommodating. My room was very comfortable and pretty. I highly recommend this hotel for comfort, service, affordability and location. Will stay here again if I decide to come back in the future.

Their staff were courteous, responsive, and maintained a high standard of cleanliness. One particularly good practice they had was that any request or requirement from us could be sent through WhatsApp, and they would attend to it promptly. From the quality and correctness of their replies in English, it appeared that they were using AI-assisted communication. This, at least, helped us overcome much of the language barrier and made our interactions smoother and more efficient.

On the first night, we were allotted a small room on the first floor where the air-conditioning was not functioning properly. Upon our request, the hotel arranged for a mechanic to inspect the unit, but unfortunately, the issue could not be resolved. When we expressed our discomfort, we were informed that all the ground-floor rooms were fully occupied and that the only available alternative was a room on the second floor. However, the following day, they shifted us to a room on the ground floor, which was much more comfortable and met our expectations. Another issue we faced was the language barrier. Most of the staff were local and had limited proficiency in English, which sometimes made communication difficult. It would be helpful if at least some members of the staff possessed a basic working knowledge of English to assist guests more effectively.

The location is amazing; 5 min walk from Blok M Plaza, across the street from Apotik Mahakam, and surrounded by abundance and amazing street food. The bed is comfortable, the room (Langsat) is clean and nicely decorated. The shower room was nice, and the water pressure was strong. The staff were contactable via Whatsapp, and they were responsive. I was able to borrow plates/bowls and cutleries for the room. The porch is inviting; it's the perfect place for having tea/meal, watching the rain, reading a book, catching up with friends, etc. The attached cafe serves great tea and coffee (they sell food and snacks too).

The loud noise from the porch, street and outside the room door is disturbing my rest and sleep; I had to put on ear plugs just to have a peace of mind in the room! Is there any room in Lamandau House that is noise proof? Perhaps they should invest in double glazing all their windows, and soundproofing all doors. Langsat room had its own porch, which in theory should be private and relaxing. However, because there is no real barrier between my porch and the neighbour, it didn't feel private and it's too noisy to relax! perhaps they should invest in tall plants that function as "porch divider". There were a lot of mosquitos in the shower room. If there is nothing to be done, then at least the management should provide mosquito repellent that is plugged to the wall.
