Konosu Onsen 鴻の巣温泉 1F

The river was exquisite. The sound of the river could be heard from inside and there was a good view of the river from upstairs. It was not one of the typical tamed Japanese rivers with a cement or paved riverbed or sides, but a free running river with clear water. Good place for wading, sunbathing, walking in the countryside, bird watching... Very peaceful. The inn was a sprawling time capsule with a retro vinyl collection and turntable - ask Steve how to use the turntable properly to avoid damaging the needles or LPs. The room was more of a suite, with traditional tatami mats and a futon, and was ginormous by Japanese standards. Steve was sociable and offered me a ride from the station since he was nearby looking for macrame supplies. I would recommend getting a pickup/drop off because he enjoys playing tour guide and itʻs nice to stock up on groceries before arrival. Kitchen area with fridge and stove, dining area. Bicycles available for rent, also Steve was working on getting a car rental. The onsen was pleasant when heated, but the river was the real attraction.

This was not a luxury property so those expectations should not apply. If you have mobility issues, the staircase upstairs is a bit slippery; hold onto the rail. Nature has full reign, so there may be pollens and allergens. Take allergy pills if in doubt. Also, there are two big friendly dogs on the property, so if you are uncomfortable with big dogs, this may not be for you. Japanese bath towels are a bit skimpy, you may need two. Some nonstick pans in kitchen were worn out. Upstairs WC could use soap as an alternative to liquid hand sanitizer? Recycling area could have better signage? *Ayashi Station has NO coin luggage lockers, so if you are planning treks from that station and have luggage, for example to Akiu Falls, make other arrangements for your luggage. Strong early morning light in July, even with bamboo curtains, so if you want to sleep in late, use an eye mask or two. Also, there was no AC that I recall.

Very peaceful, relaxing, and interesting stay. First time in Japan and at onsen. We were treated so well and can't wait to return.

Not a problem, but good to know toilet is upstairs.

L’isolamento termico delle case tradizionali giapponesi è quello che è. Quasi ogni stanza ha in dotazione una stufa, ma portatevi dei vestiti pesanti perché di notte ed al mattino presto potreste doverli usare.
