Hotel New Mitoya

Located in Akiu Onsen this hotel is about a 20-30 minute drive out from Sendai. It’s located right next to a Lawson which is very convenient. The parking lots are a little ways out which is annoying given how narrow the roads are here but they regularly offer a short shuttle service to and from the parking lots. There are two shuttles in the morning to Sendai station at 9:30 and 11:30, but you will need to reserve it beforehand at the front. The staff are courteous, helpful, and polite. The building is massive with three different bathing facilities, though two of them are connected. The baths are fantastic with a large variety of indoor and outdoor options as well as a sauna and cold bath. The dining area is quite large and can feel a bit impersonal, especially at breakfast where it gets a bit chaotic. However the food is quite good although by ryokan standards I wouldn’t call it top notch. We stayed in a Japanese room, which is on the cheaper side of things for this hotel. After paying extra for dinner and drinks and other small miscellaneous fees I did feel it was just a touch too expensive. However the experience itself was very solid and I can recommend this hotel.

Onsen was really big and nice! Very comfortable environment and very clean and neat. Dinner was good and breakfast was average but not bad! However the room was very dusty and the tatami beddings seems didn't wash for long time. We saw the tag showed cleaning sate was on 1/1/2025, we stayed there at 18/3/2025. Our skin felt very itchy after spending the night there. For those who concern about the cleanliness of the bed sheets you may need to be awared of this issue. Staffs were very friendly and helpful

Very good hotel for Onsen and food

The hotel offers spacious rooms and excellent housekeeping services. The hot spring is a highlight, providing a relaxing experience. However, it is a bit crowded in the afternoon, especially, some kids are noisy in the lobby area. Besides, the location lacks views and isn't very walkable.
