Hestia Hotel Hugo

This was by far the best place we have stayed during a month of backpacking around Europe, in terms of value for money. It was extremely clean, very comfortable, spacious enough for a family of four, super convenient for arriving by foot from the train station, well equipped, good air conditioning, good windows so no street noise, excellent shower, efficient communication. We loved the sunny rooftop terrace for sharing a family picnic in the evening. We liked that every bedside has a socket for recharging devices!

The listing states that breakfast is included and will be delivered to the door, and other reviewers have commented on the great breakfast, but we did not receive any. Perhaps we were meant to request it but we did not see any way to do so. Online check-in was a bit cumbersome, having to manually enter the same details for all guests. But these are minor things, overall we are delighted and highly recommend a stay here.

The location is good, just a short walk to the Old Town of Tartu and the park along the river.

The check in and out is unnecessarily complicated; the proprietors want you to check in and out online, when there is no clear reason to do so. The door code worked just fine, but when the air conditioner did not come on and I sent a question about it, the response was delayed and unhelpful. I did not need to be told to turn down the thermostat temperature, I know how an air conditioner works. The unit was not on, and despite many attempts to change the mode, or find the way to turn it on, it never came on. Unfortunately, we were there during a warm spell and the window was tiny and unhelpful in cooling the room. Each night was progressively more uncomfortable.
