Lovely location and warm, comfortable base — but needs some attention to detail
We recently stayed at Duck Egg Cottage for a short break in Haworth, and while the cottage has a lot going for it, there are a few areas that could really benefit from some basic attention and a little more guest-focused thinking. Positives first: The location is absolutely brilliant — just a couple of minutes' walk from the centre of Haworth, which meant easy access to the Parsonage Museum, independent shops, cafes, and not far from the steam railway. The cottage itself was warm, with a cosy and comfortable living room and excellent WiFi — probably the fastest we’ve had in any holiday let, which was a real plus. The kitchen was well-stocked with good-quality glassware, crockery, and the like. We appreciated the information folder, with instructions on how to work the various appliances, this is often left out of self catering lets.
That said, a few things did let it down: The front door lock really needs urgent attention. It was extremely stiff and temperamental, and on several occasions it took all three of us quite a while to unlock it or get the key back out. It gave us serious concerns about getting in (or out!) quickly in an emergency, and left us feeling uneasy about leaving the cottage securely locked when we were out. The interior is a little dated and would benefit from some minor maintenance and TLC — nothing major, but small things do add up. A few simple touches would make a big difference to the guest experience: a pint of milk in the fridge on arrival, more than half a roll of toilet paper, and perhaps a few updated teabags (the ones provided were past their prime!). These would cost very little but go a long way towards making guests feel more welcomed and looked after. Overall, Duck Egg Cottage has a lot of potential. With a few easy improvements, it could easily move from “OK” to “great.”

A neighbour kindly let us park behind his car at the entrance to the cul de sac. Very good value for money.
