It was much nicer than it looks. Given the heatwave the aircon in the bed was very welcome. There issues with keys but most staff were pretty happy to help.
When I was there the social atmosphere wasn’t amazing but honestly it is hard to judge as I did not spend much time in the bar before heading elsewhere and meeting people there. Ostbahnhof is not an easy station to navigate from this side

We enjoyed the proximity to restaurants, the REWE grocery store and the public transport (train station). The neighborhood was quite lively when we were there, but the soundproofing is excellent with the windows closed.
The common areas were big and well organized.
Each bed had a fan, light and socket.
The locker room was a cool amenity.
It would have been nice to have a bathroom on the floor outside of the rooms, but as we rented the whole room, it wasn’t too unpleasant.

It was my second time staying at this hostel. It was clean, had a great vibe, and the staff were always willing to help. Staff members DJ and Freddy definitely stood out, they were very welcoming, friendly, and funny.
