Friendly. Clean and comfortable
A bit dated in decor.
Raw sausages for breakfast was the strangest thing I have ever encountered in a lifetime of staying in hotels ( maybe they were steamed)?? But looked like they needed to be cooked. Other than that breakfast was decent

Staff were so accommodating
The bathroom needs a good clean

Quaint listed building used as a cover for not refurbishing, which didn’t bother me as its clean and comfortable.
The breakfast was hit and miss for content and waiting staff put freshly microwaved scrambled eggs from a Tupperware dish into the congealed remnants of scrambled egg that remained in the serving container Yuk! This was the case with all the food fresh put on top of food past being fit for service.
On the second night there was to be no sleep to be had as the occupants of the room above were constantly pacing up and down stomping on the loose squeaky floor boards that are badly in need of repair. Breakfast was summed up by the chef nipping in and out of the kitchen with his coat on ready for a quick getaway while chatting to the waiter.

The property is in a great location just a few minutes from centre of town and you pass on the way some lovely cafes/pubs which is great
The rooms are very dated …we booked a privilege room but there was nothing special about the room decor wise …no seats to sit …you had to chill on the bed with your wine as no table either ….been to other Mercure with same room and they are totally different as in much more comfortable …it defo needs a revamp of all the rooms

Excellent location in a lovely old building with cobblestones on the doorstep.
Scottish breakfast could have been better.

The hotel is run down. Breakfast staff were ignorant. Room was old and needed decorated. Looked dirty. Bed wasn’t comfy. Breakfast was cold and the staff within the breakfast area did not want to be there.

The building was beautiful-
The staff were friendly
The location was great 👍
When we arrived our room was in the old part of the building rm 130 , when we walked through the corridor you could feel the temperature drop and when entering the room it was very cold no heating was on. Bear in mind it was January, we switched the heating onto full and went out to let the room warm up, on return it just took the edge of it. We are use to sleeping in old cold houses but when you’re paying over £100 you would hope to be able to feel the end of your nose. the kind receptionist gave us an additional heater. I believe the other rooms in newer part of hotel were very warm. I think 🤔 if the staff have a booking it would be wise to switch the heating onto full that morning and at least it would have time to defrost a bit. We were only there for one night and at a party so we weren’t in the room for that long; if we had been staying further nights I would have asked to swap room.

Location is perfect lovely old style interior
Breakfast was superb fresh and excellent choices
Silly criticism but the bed side lamps are too low! Have a nasty cut to my head after rising too sharply and quickly from the bed and caught the sharp corner of the lamp shade! Should know it’s there lol but a bit higher and this wouldn’t happen !!

Bar area was good and modern.
Pictures of room do not represent the room we was given very dated run down. Bathroom also terrible condition would use bath. Wouldn’t have booked if picture of actual room was on booking.com. Can also hear every noise from other room. Floorboards also squeak when you walk around rooms.

Good sized room with toiletries, towels and comfy bed. Everything we needed for an overnight stay. Parking was right outside the hotel for an additional fee which wasn’t too bad. The hotel bar was cute and had a nice simple atmosphere. We opted out of hotel breakfast and walked down the road to another cafe. There was also a few takeaways open when we got there for dinner. Would highly recommend. Great price for an overnight stay for 2 giving us a warm room and a good nights rest.

The location.
The room was awful it is badly needing a total make over. Very basic and the carpet was disgusting so worn. We actually asked to move rooms to which they allowed us to. Breakfast was ok, location was fine not far from everything. Staff when we checked in were very helpful but the girl that was on on Sunday was very rude. One thing I don't agree with is having to £7 a night to park your car right outside the hotel yes in the over spill car park but not the one outside.

Good hotel noticed they have started charging for parking, nice rooms but would prefer a room at the back of the hotel due to noise.
Put us in a room right above the main entrance to the hotel which was noisy right up to 2am due to works night out, there seemed to be more people outside than inside smoking and shouting.

Having to pay extra for parking.

The ‘cosy’ feel about the hotel as soon as you stepped in. Cynthia on reception was so lovely, very cheery, pleasant and helpful.

Location is central and with it being old water mill makes it interesting
Bed was extremely comfortable and food delicious
Furniture in room tired and the bathroom needed some work ,,,, cracked sink and needed some tile work
5.0 / 10.0
The breakfast was disappointing made up of mostly processed foods which was a shame.
I arrived in early evening and the bedroom was cold. I called reception and told me that I needed to turn on the radiator which I did and which solved the issue.
That said, there were no instructions in the room about such things and it took a while for the bedroom to warm up, something I would expect to already have been done prior to my arrival in Mid November in Scotland! Also I would suggest they invest in some heated towel rails for the bathroom as there was no heating whatsoever in there.

Stay here a lot really love the hotel.
Very rude chefs. Refused to make food on the room service menu because they were too busy. I had an autistic child with me and asked in advance if the menu was ok. Receptionist was very friendly and tries to help but the chefs refused to make it.

Check in was quick & easy, room was clean but dated & shabby
The shower didn't work, water pressure didn't allow you to run a bath, hot tap in the sink was sporadic & spat very hot water over you. Reported the evening we arrived but nothing was done. Mentioned problems again on check out, and although an apology was given, they really couldn't have cared less.....very disappointed
