About this house rental

Horizon House is a spectacular new build completed in 2021. It is the perfect location for a special weekend getaway, romantic couples retreat or simply a place to relax and rejuvenate with friends. Read what our most recent guests have said -

The house is absolutely quiet just a few steps from the beach. The view of the sea through the large panoramic windows is gigantic. Everything is perfectly clean and furnished in a perfection as we have never experienced before. Liz's description doesn't come close to that. Great beds and mattresses, kitchen equipment at its finest. Liz: You don't rent such a great house, you live in it yourself! Thank you very much for letting us spend a few days there!

We offer you a spacious, warm modern house with a beautiful interior and luxurious bathrooms. It’s a short 3 min walk to the golden sandy beach and surfers break at Campbell’s Bay. Or just step onto the South facing deck and relax on the outdoor seating (beautiful blankets provided to snuggle under) and look out to Campbell’s Bay, All Day Bay, Moeraki and the South Pacific Ocean beyond. Crossroads surf break is a short drive out towards Oamaru.

From sunrise to sunset the living area in Horizon House is flooded with natural light. Open the sliding doors in the main living area to the East for the beautiful sun rises or open them up to the South for the afternoon sun and sunset over the Kakanui Ranges. There are two spacious living areas on the first floor along with a fantastic modern hosting kitchen, coffee machine, hot chocolate maker (Winter only), large cold water and ice dispensing fridge, contemporary dining area and 1 of the 3 bathrooms. Here you’ll find bath salts, essential oils and big white fluffy towels. Keeping you warm up here is the sun shining through the floor to ceiling ranch sliders, thenwood burner (wood provided) and a heat pump. The first aid kit is located in the under bench cupboard closest to the oven. The fire extinguisher is located under the sink. Also available for beach excursions or day trips - a cool bag with small flask, lunchbox and snack boxes.

Downstairs the hallway leads to the 2 en-suite bedrooms which are the same size and layout and are heated by contemporary wall hung column radiators. Both have King sized beds made up with top quality linen, including king pillows and New Zealand Wool duvets. There is a large built in wardrobe with plenty of hanging space available in both rooms. Subtle sensor lighting guides you to the generous en-suite where there are large walk-in glass surround showers, underfloor heating and heated towel rails. Also downstairs there are radiators heating the entrance hallway and the fully equipped laundry. Whatever the weather, cold is not optional here!

The outside area wraps around the house and this is where you will find the washing line, outside taps and wood store. Most of the area is laid to lawn. There is a cobbled driveway with space for 2 cars.

There are brightly coloured beach towels available for guest use in the 1st floor bathroom on the vanity shelf.

Riverstone Kitchen (check opening operational hours before visiting) and Castle is 35kms North of Oamaru and the Victorian Precinct in Oamaru is just a 10 minute drive north from Kakanui. The Harbour Street Bakery can be found there, along with great art galleries, fashion and design shops. The Del Mar restaurant is along the harbour and Cucina Restaurant on Tees Street is recommended. Moeraki, with its two popular restaurants - The Fish Wife (Crayfish and Chips) and Fleur’s (check on opening hours before visiting - booking essential) is 25 minutes to the South.
BOOK TODAY FOR LABOUR WEEKEND 2025. Perfect for Couples and Friends. CBD corner shop and bottle store will sell you, magnificent $2 ice cream scoops, fish and chip takeaways and other supermarket staples. The Natural Dairy is North on SH1, 9kms towards Oamaru and south 9kms you’ll find Brydone Fresh Organic Veggie stall and Brydone Wholefoods next door. The closest Caltex petrol station is in Alma on SH1 south of Deborah.

We spent 3 very happy weeks staying in Liz’s beautiful home in Kakanui. Everything was top quality from furniture to dishes to bedding. Kakanui is a quiet and charming resort community. The house has panoramic ocean views and an extensive upped deck. We went 15 minutes north to Oamaru for groceries and restaurants. This is an excellent location from which to explore the South Island. We loved every minute of our stay in this top quality home.

Probably the best VRBO we have ever stayed in. Unbelievably comfortable (layout great with bedrooms on ground floor-each with own en-suite-and upstairs living room, media area, kitchen and outdoor deck with superb views of the ocean and cliffs. 5 minute walk to Campbell Bay Reserve surfing beach. Immaculately clean and well supplied. Owner Liz is a jewel to work with-the most welcoming hostess ever!!!

We were amazed at the quality of this awesome home throughout, this certainly is a fabulous hideaway home, every step of the way was perfection- from the breathless views of the ocean, to the fully equiped kitchen, bath with a view . decor is better than most five star hotels, we felt so relaxed to be here. We typically stay away one week each month around the country, and Melbourne regularly (pre-COVID )and nowhere that we have stayed ticks all the boxes like this oasis for completely turning your back on the hustle and bustle of everyday living - we are already looking for dates for our next visit. We love the beach walk that is only a few mins away , there is surf for those who love surfing, we didn’t want to leave.The hosts were amazing and very helpful throughout our stay- we recommend this place if you are looking to catch your breath.Tracy & Grant
