Welcome to Whistle Run, a truly special mountain retreat perched on 3 private acres overlooking the spectacular Animas Valley. This beautifully appointed 2,900-square-foot, single-level home offers breathtaking, unobstructed views from every room, creating an unforgettable backdrop for your Colorado vacation.
Designed for both relaxation and entertaining, Whistle Run features an open-concept floor plan with oversized rooms, soaring views, and a warm mountain-ranch ambiance. The spacious living area offers comfortable seating for gathering with family and friends, including a leather sofa, swivel rocker recliners, club chairs, and dining space for 8–10 guests. A 75" Samsung Smart TV with Blu-ray/DVD player anchors the room, while each bedroom is also equipped with its own Samsung Smart TV. High-speed Wi-Fi and streaming capabilities are available throughout the home.
The home comfortably accommodates up to six guests in three generously sized bedrooms. Two luxurious king en-suite bedrooms—including the primary suite—provide privacy and comfort, while the third oversized bedroom features two twin beds that can be converted to a king upon request. A dedicated bathroom is conveniently located just across the hall.
The primary suite serves as a private sanctuary, featuring a two-person soaking tub, a spacious steam shower for two, a large walk-in closet, and stunning mountain views. For guests who need to stay connected, two dedicated workspaces are available, including an antique roll-top desk with printer.
As this is also our personal residence, the chef's kitchen is exceptionally well-equipped with high-quality cookware, appliances, and nearly everything needed to prepare memorable meals. Whether you're creating a simple breakfast or a gourmet dinner, you'll find the kitchen thoughtfully stocked and ready for use.
One of Whistle Run's most unique features is its location alongside a beloved piece of Colorado history: the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Guests often enjoy relaxing on the deck or gathering around one of the two outdoor fire pits to watch the historic steam train chug by and wave to passengers and conductors as they pass. For first-time visitors to Durango, a ride on this iconic railroad is highly recommendeud.
Outside, you'll discover expansive outdoor living spaces designed to help you soak in the beauty of the mountains. Enjoy the privacy of your surroundings, the fresh alpine air, and unforgettable sunsets while relaxing on the decks, dining outdoors, or gathering around the fire pits beneath the stars.
Guests have access to the entire home, laundry room, large private driveway, and backyard areas. The driveway offers ample parking and can easily accommodate 'big toy' trailers, bicycles, kayaks, and other recreational equipment. The only areas not available to guests are the owner's garage and basement.

Great location near to Durango and Purgatory. Host is friendly and easy to get in touch with. She provides some hiking recommendations. We were here for hiking mainly but also enjoyed spending time on the deck looking out at the Animas valley. Trains passing by on a regular basis is a huge bonus.

Whistle Run was the perfect property for our one month stay. Close enough to Durango in a forested private area. The front entry welcomes with potted flowers, the interior is homey, warm and very clean. Incredible views from the kitchen and decks. The 3 levels of backyard sitting areas are beautiful. The kitchen has every tool to prepare great meals. We reported an issue with the grill and the next morning a new grill was delivered. The owners are VERY responsive, welcoming and eager to accommodate guests! We highly recommend Whistle Run!

We had a wonderful time staying at whistle run! There was a beautiful view and was not very far from Durango. The house was very clean and comfortable. Can't wait to visit again.
