Le Bas de Laine is an absolutely beautiful property and the perfect place to stay in Franschhoek. The house is spacious, stylish, and immaculately maintained, with every detail thoughtfully considered to make guests feel comfortable and at home.
The location is peaceful and private, yet within easy walking distance of the village, shops, and fantastic restaurants. The outdoor areas are especially lovely, ideal for relaxing and spending time together, and the interiors are equally impressive with generous, comfortable bedrooms and elegant living spaces.
Everything about our stay was seamless, from arrival to departure. Le Bas de Laine truly offers a luxurious yet welcoming experience, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a special stay in Franschhoek.
There was some building work being done on a house close by, but it was not too noisy and did not inconvenience us. Really nothing else to complain about, and Peter (House Manager) or John (House Keeper) were available to quickly sort out any issues if they did occur.

We absolutely loved the villa and honestly couldn’t pick any fault with it. It was spotless, beautifully maintained, and really exceeded our expectations in every way.
There wasn’t anything we didn’t like. The only very minor issue was that the downstairs twin room didn’t have a strong WiFi connection, but it wasn’t the end of the world.

The house and location were great.
Unfortunately there were several aspects of our stay that were extremely disappointing. First, the information booklet in the kitchen confirmed that there was an unlimited supply of braai wood for us to use, however there was no wood available for our stay and despite informing the manager of this oversight, we were made to go in search of wood on the first night which happened to be a public holiday which meant that most shops were closed. The manager also did not arrange for wood to be delivered for the second night. We also tried to use the oven, however every time we turned it on, it tripped the main electric box- this wasn’t resolved for the duration of our stay. On the first night we were also shocked to find that the hot water switch in the garage had not been put on and we all had to have cold showers that night and the next morning despite informing the manager of the issue (we checked the main electric box and everything was on but weren’t aware of the second switch in the garage which should have been attended to before our arrival). We were incredibly disappointed by the manager’s lack of response or apology - we still have not heard back from him. Separately, having booked the whole house, we weren’t even given the opportunity to choose our rooms- all rooms were locked apart from three of them (none of which had bath tubs). We paid a huge amount of money for two nights and were incredibly disappointed by how we were treated - while the accomodation itself is lovely, it wasn’t worth the money.
