The amenities were very well thought out. As a retired railroad conductor and railroad historian I appreciated the many references in the hotel and bar to the Burlington railroad.

We were traveling along the Mississippi River Road and stayed one night at the Burlington. Very friendly owner, bar was fun and our room was really comfortable. Great stay.

The hotel has a little kitchenette that has coffee and snacks It really doesn't have a breakfast unless you want instant oatmeal. Jennifer the owner/host was so fun to talk with at the bar and the cats that wander in the bar are quite entertaining. The rooms are small so expect that. It's just a quaint old hotel -- I would stay there again. It's decorated nicely and small details are exceptional. ENJOY...

The hotel is historic in most senses of the word. Staying there is not for everyone, as the historic nature of the building could be a problem for some guests (limited access for mobility challenged people, baths separate from the rooms).
The hotel is located within walking distance of most of Alma, and Lock #4 on the Mississippi river is across the street.
The host was helpful and friendly, and the cats were quite affectionite.
The down sides of this hotel are largely unfixable due to the historic nature of the building and the location. The steep entrance stairs are somewhat mitigated by the flatter entrance in the back. The mainline of the railroad run near by along the Mississippi, so there is noise at various times during the night. The hotel did provide ear plugs, but we did use them, as we did not find the sounds that loud. Your milage may vary.
