Les kilomètres à pied dans la réserve à observer les girafes, les autruches, les zèbres, les antilopes, les hyènes...; les longues conversations passionnantes et passionnées; le duo de choc formé par nos hôtes, Bonnie & Clyde, la Belle & la Bête, et/ou Batman & Robin a.k.a Xavier et Patricia; les repas du soir; la générosité, le surclassement, l'univers exubérant de ce lieu atypique et unique...

Les menaces de représailles en cas de commentaires négatifs ;-)))) Non, vraiment, rien, tout était extraordinaire...

Deze accommodatie is niet voor iedereen… De kamer die we hadden was in het huis waar Xavier en Patricia ( de hosts) zelf ook wonen. Dat betekent dat je vanuit je kamer, de woonkamer instapt. Het voelt alsof je een logee bent. Er is hierdoor weinig privacy. Er lopen een paar honden, die lekker op de bank zitten en uit het zwembad drinken. Dat is hun goed recht, het is immers hun huis. Maar als gast ga je dan niet lekker zwemmen ( dat vind ik niet fris) en op de bank zitten. Patricia is een schat en doet haar best om het je naar je zin te maken. Xavier heeft veel verhalen te vertellen en heeft van zijn accommodatie een kunstwerk gemaakt. Hij is een aanwezige persoonlijkheid, dat is een gegeven, geen waarde oordeel. Helaas was er geen water, het hele gebied had geen water. daar konden Patricia en Xavier niets aan doen. We kregen een upgrade naar een luxe suite. Echt prachtig. Maar niet kunnen douchen draagt niet bij aan een vakantiegevoel. Het eten was goed, ze zijn beide uitstekende koks. En er was een uitgebreid ontbijt in de ochtend. Het diner was volgens Afrikaanse begrippen) aan de dure kant. Voor Nederlandse begrippen is het goedkoop. Het eten was met veel liefde en aandacht bereid. De dieren op de locatie waren geweldig. Daar hebben we enorm van genoten.

Twee nachten zonder water is afzien.

On a vraiment tout aimé ! L’accueil chaleureux de Xavier, sa disponibilité, ses délicates attentions envers notre famille, ses conseils judicieux et avisés, nos échanges sur l’Afrique du sud et les animaux sauvages… Xavier possède une réserve où il fait bon vivre, entourée par toutes sortes d’animaux faciles à apercevoir, Nous avons été surclassés et avons pu bénéficier d’une maison luxueuse, très confortable, décorée avec originalité. Une terrasse, une piscine et un jardin ouvert sur la réserve d’où l’on peut observer zèbres, buffles, antilopes, impalas noirs… et de multiples oiseaux. Nous avons pu nous reposer après un long périple en Afrique du sud et profiter des bienfaits de sa maison et de sa réserve. Les trois chiens de Xavier sont très affectueux. Ils alertent si nécessaire (passage d’un porc-épic) et on se sent en confiance avec eux. Les repas étaient gastronomiques : soupe de nouilles au saké, brochettes de pintades sauvages et de phacochères, steak de buffle, salade thaï, profiteroles au chocolat... Xavier, un chef digne du guide Michelin ! Il prend soin de ses animaux. Il les protège, engage des frais pour qu’ils soient en bonne santé et bien nourris, met en place des points d’eau et surveille leur bien-être. La sécurité est un enjeu majeur pour lui et les braconniers n’ont pas leur place à Hoedspruit et à Hippomoon lodge game reserve. Il est dévoué à la cause animale et il forme des futurs rangers. Xavier est un ange gardien de la faune africaine ! Avec lui, chaque animal a une histoire, chaque lieu fait l’objet d’une anecdote ou d’une aventure vécue. Il connaît très bien l’Afrique, les hommes qui l’habitent et ses projets en achetant cette réserve font de lui un conservateur d'espaces naturels, un vétérinaire pour la faune sauvage, un ranger, un sociologue, un anthropologue… Une personne attachante et respectable, qui fera tout pour vous aider et vous contenter. Aller chez lui est une expérience sud-africaine mémorable que vous ne pourrez...

The hosts are exceptionally friendly and hospitable and the location is excellent. There are free roaming animals on the property and the host is willing and able to take you on game drives etc.

This is not a lodge, this is basically a large house that the owner has converted into a hostile. We booked a private chalet and we were told we were being upgraded to the main house. The main house is a large house with multiple rooms off of the main living area where you will be staying. This is very good if you are interested in meeting new people and interacting with the host, however it affords basically no privacy. The host also has multiple dogs that live in the house with you, they are permitted to swim in, and drink from the pool, and are free to roam through the kitchen while dinner is being prepared. They are very cute and friendly, but it is important to understand that they will be involved in all aspects of your stay. The host prepares dinner himself, it was good and costs approximately $30 USD per person. The main issue for us was cleanliness of our room and the unexpected nature of the stay. The sheets clearly had not been cleaned and the bathroom was also not clean (a lot of hair in the shower drain, used soap, etc). This is not a bad accommodation if you are interested in a hostile type environment, and if the cleanliness problems were resolved. While i personally would not stay here again or recommend it to others, if you are interested in a very social type of stay where you interact heavily with the host and other guests, this could be a good option for you.
