Room and surroundings are stunning
Staff were fabulous
Very unlucky due to some staffing issues i believe.
Hall used for dinner was freezing cold - meal was removed from the bill due to this.
Snug not open
Cleanliness was not up to standard

The property and our room was beautiful.
The entire property was freezing cold. Our room had a very small radiator that was clearly inadequate to heat the space, making the stay uncomfortable even before the evacuation occurred.
At 2am, we were evacuated due to a gas leak and transferred to a different hotel. While we were understanding and cooperative at the time, recognising that emergencies happen and that this was beyond the hotel’s control, what followed was deeply disappointing.
We were informed that there would be no compensation whatsoever for our stay, not even for the breakfast we missed because of their lack of communication, despite having paid over £200 for a single night at a hotel specifically chosen for its pool and spa facilities, facilities we never had the opportunity to see or enjoy.
Being told that the disruption was “minimal”, that we should be grateful for a “free ride” to a Holiday Inn at 2am, and that the matter was closed because the hotel had “done everything by the book” demonstrates a complete lack of empathy.
While a Holiday Inn may be classified as a four-star hotel, it is not equivalent to your property, nor to the room and facilities we paid for. Being evacuated in the middle of the night, relocated, and losing access to the hotel experience we had booked is not a "minimal inconvenience" by any reasonable standard.
We fully accept that gas leaks and evacuations are unavoidable. What was within the staff's control was the response: acknowledging the disruption, recognising the loss of value, and treating guests with basic understanding. Instead, the response amounted to little more than “at least you’re alive”.
To add further insult, we were offered a discount on a future stay... a week later. While again being reminded that the disruption was minimal.

The lobby and the building is very nice and traditional. We were in low season so only we were using the jacuzzi and sauna. The breakfast was very nice and tasty.
The restaurant would have been so nice, but at the dinner the lights were extreme bright. The food was average, we felt it a bit overpriced.

Young staff friendly, but lacking any guidance from any management. Very unorganized and not very accommodating.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Bed was comfy. Outside hot tub and sauna was a big bonus.
It’s tired & needs a refurb. The room was clean but the bathroom looked pretty run down. The lights were awful, one didnt work so trying to put make up on was a challenge. The leisure centre lockers are literally falling apart, doors hanging off.

Extremely well looked after house. A lot of effort to make sure the guests are looked after..
There wasn't a kettle in the room. And the bath tub didn't have water.

Beautiful building and grounds. Food was excellent and room was extremely comfortable. Games room was a nice little surprise for some entertainment after dinner.
Nothing major, but some additional sockets next to the bed would have been handy. Couldn't have my phone on charge and the lamp on at the same time

Very homely and Christmassy with lovely, friendly staff. Very dog friendly 🐾
Hot water taps too hot, connection issues but thats to be expected in an old country estate.

Breakfast could be better , they should use local produce as they are in a great location for fresh foods.
The view from the window was onto a roof and gable end if building .

Breakfast was generous, ample choice from cold buffet plus menu for cooked dishes.
Staff in dining area very pleasant...as was reception staff...all good.
Didn't get time to explore splendid interior fully but did see wonderful collection of photographs/art on walls.
Next time, in nice weather, look forward to looking around the grounds.
Do hope to have opportunity to return.
Pillows were a bit lumpy! Apart from that the bed was super sized and comfy.

The staff are exceptional. The food is very good and well presented.
The lack of staff in the late evenings. There were only two members of staff on to run the bar and the entire hotel.

Loved the location, the awesome Christmas Trees and open fires. Staff were all friendly, accommodating and couldn’t do more for us - they all went above and beyond. Beds were comfortable and food was delicious.
Torrential rain on first night resulting in leaks all over the building, including our bathroom ceiling.
No lift access to our room (I have mobility issues)

Friendly staff. Comfortable accommodation, good public areas. Don't forget your swimming things as there is a spa / pool free for guests to use.
One small niggle in a 4-night stay - asked for a zero % lager and was given an unchilled one.

Location and hotel lovely. The ladies on reception -pm and am were friendly & helpful.
Unfortunately very slow dinner service, when food did arrive it was tasty. I joined my colleague at the his breakfast table, and although the waiter saw me come in and sit down , he didn’t bother to come over and offer me tea/coffee or breakfast service. He attended to new arrivals - i was ignored. My colleague tried to get his attention but to no avail (not a busy time in the breakfast area) so we left a- I took a banana & had my colleagues left over pot of tea. Drafty bathroom window which needs repairing- locking it causes a bigger gap than not locking the window.

Always so cosy and great customer service. We needed some ideas of where to go, given the storm and Balmoral being closed. The lady at reception wrote us a list of options - ended up at Castle Fraser which was such a great day out. A huge thank you to the lady, she went above and beyond to help us.
The spa was a little dated.

Nice breakfast in Drawing Room. Nice view
The room was dark and depressing.
Needed a better clean. Found soiled ladies pants in drawer.

Appalling experience. Room cancelled by perfunctory email on evening prior to arrival. Despite numerous phone calls no one to explain; just a perfunctory email telling us to book elsewhere.
Then booking reinstated by email on morning of arrival……. However when we arrived we were told that room had been rekey to someone else. Total confusion amongst staff. No apology, just told to book elsewhere.

This was received at 9.30pm
It turns out the hotel had double booked our room and four others. When I finally got a reply on the phone, which was no mean feat, they could not have cared less.
Good evening,
Apologise for the late email.
We have had an unforeseen maintenance issue in part of our hotel meaning we are no longer able to accommodate your booking for Saturday evening.
We apologise for the short notice and any inconvenience caused.
If we do not hear from you this evening then we will try and phone you in the morning.
Apologises again,
Front Desk Team

Location was stunning , beautiful grounds. Staff were amazing so pleasant , breakfast superb with great choice and all cooked fresh to order. Housekeeping great job considering rooms need refreshed .
Rooms are dated and need serious money spent on them, stained carpets, damp, wallpaper/paint coming off walls , bath worn & chipped , spa - good gym, but pool is dated, nowhere to relax round it , jacuzzi not working , lockers broken. Issues with dinner service.

Beautiful grounds, friendly staff and great for dogs!
King room was small, wouldn’t be big enough for someone with a larger dog.

Location and property where exceptional, spa treatment prices where particularly steep, food was great. The bed however was extremely uncomfortable, mattress is at the end of its life, woke up sore both days.
My only criticism was the bed needs a new mattress.
