We would stay at the Stroops over and over again.

This is the most perfect place!!! Love the location with a phenomenal view, completely private and it is close to see local sites and restaurants. We have stayed twice before and the house is consistently clean and comfortable. The owner is so very welcoming and available as needed

Lovely!

The view from the living room and bedroom is amazing. Lovely walk down into Helmsdale. The cottage was well equipped, clean and comfortable. The owner, who lives in the adjoining property, was helpful but unobtrusive. Milk, whiskey ant biscuits were a nice touch and appreciated. It’s a lovely place for peace and quiet.

There are signs all over the cottage telling you how to use things, what not to do and possible consequences if you cause damage doing something contrary to the instructions. I understand the need for this but feel it could all be put in a folder as this would be a little more friendly. Two of the double wardrobes were chained shut - there is enough storage and hanging space without them but the chains seemed a bit OTT - maybe a key lock or something similar might be nicer. Just observations as we had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend The Stroops.

A Croft with an amazing view.

Ruth was very welcoming on our arrival. I messaged before arriving and she was there waiting for us . The house was immaculate with a fabulous view and Ruth treated us to a dram of whisky and Scottish shortbread. A lovely touch! The area is a great place to explore as part of the NC 500.

The peaceful gem

My partner and I booked the evening before, just to go away couple of days..our expectations have been totally exceeded, the Stroops is an hidden gem where you can relax and reconnect to yourself.. Ruth is an amazing host and lady, the house is extremely clean and the view..the view is stunning, the more you look at it and the more you fall in love with the place. Instructions are clear, kitchen is well equipped and the only things you hear are the wind, the sea and birds. We will be back, thank you so much for the experience, it was much needed!

Lovely accommodation in a very peaceful spot

The views were amazing. The place was warm and cosy and impeccably clean.

Approach to accommodation was via an extremely steep gravel driveway which was not something I would wish to do during the winter

On arrival Ruth the owner was there to meet us . Property was exactly as it had been described on website. Very clean and tidy . Views spectacular . Great location for visiting many stops on NC 500.

An abunance of lables dont touch this or that,wadrobes locked to guests via padlocks with a statement due to pandemic which is over !!!.So could not hang up clothes Lights for lounge area in kitchen why I would suggest host gets plumbing looked at drainage is not great and you had to be careful in case loo blocked as in greece ect. No outside chairs or bench and table to front of property would have enhanced our stay Would suggest perhaps patio doors and balcony to front to enhance property A freezer would have been nice No local taxis

The apartment was exceptionally clean with a good view of the sea. The staff was really friendly and helpful. There were many notices around the apartment about how to use each piece of equipment which was very useful.

Location good with amazing views. Bed very comfortable. Seating area in lounge nice and comfortable. Communication with host was very good.

Lack of crockery and cutlery. We felt there should be more than 2 of everything, even though there were only 2 of us. Lack of local information for us as tourists. We felt there was an over-use of labelling around the property. It would have been better put in a visitor book. A shame that the garden seat was round the back, so guests can't enjoy the stunning views if they are lucky enough to get good weather, like we did.

The Stroops in summer

Ruth was an excellent host, very accommodating and interesting to talk to. The Stroops has everything you could possibly need and was immaculately clean. Laminated labels were placed around the property helpfully explaining how everything worked. The views from the windows were stunning and the area is very picturesque. The Whisky miniatures were a lovely welcome gift too!

The most perfect stay! Absolutely stunning location and the apartment had absolutely everything we needed including some treats from Ruth. Everything was just perfect. The drive is steep but absolutely manageable so don’t let that put you off.

A wonderful place.....

A wonderful place to stay. Magnificent views over Helmsdale harbour and the sea with beautiful walks on your doorstep. The Stroops is very comfortable, great bed, excellent size and has everything you need to make it a home from home. Ruth is a delight, witty, funny and down to earth, always helpful but never intrusive. It was a pleasure to stay here and have access to the wonderful natural countryside, we would certainly be happy to return in a heartbeat
