Au Kugelhopf Doré - Centre Historique

Excellent location.

Difficult entry as per previous reviewers. Only received part instructions and was completely stuck on how to actually find the lock box once through the main gate. Also finding the flat inside the building was not straightforward. Eventually did receive the proper instructions afte4 having to contact the owner at 10 at night. This definitely should have been sent prior to arrival. Unnecessary stress for a solo female traveller arriving around 10pm at night. Also, the flat remains being advertised as a 2 bedroom flat, it absolutely is not a 2 bedroom flat. It is one bedroom plus living room with sofa bed. Luckily I was aware of this at the time of booking thanks to reading other reviews but I can imagine the disappointment if not known. We arrived in the midst of a historic heatwave and found the flat very uncomfortable due to the heat. 2 fans were provided, one decent one inadequate. I would definitely recommend only as a place for 2 people and certainly not in peak summer. We actually ended up leaving 24 hours early due to the level of discomfort experienced.

The main selling point of this venue is its location! Very close to the historical old city center (in fact it is already on its main axis), very close to the Little Venice (3-5 minutes walk in total) and also close to the train station (12 minutes walk) Also, very nice about this place is the old classical building where it's located: a big imposing arch gateway into an internal beautiful garden, from where all the three sides of the building are accessible. An elevator serves the 4, 5 floors. All is in good working order as access is concerned.

The bathroom is quite humid and molded. More concerning is the presence of a very unpleasant odor in the bathroom. Shower products are available but of mediocre quality. Also only two bath towels were available, with no hand / face or feet towel.

It was a fantastic base from which to explore Colmar itself – which we loved - and as a starting point for our day-long cycling trip along the ‘Route des Vins’. We really appreciated the cosy and light sitting room, spacious bedroom and well-equipped kitchen! We had a super time and hope to return to Alsace many times in the future!
