I was concerned about staying in a privately owned home, but the Belljem was fantastic. For western travelers, I think that this is as good as you will find in a private home in Kerala. Since the property has AC in the rooms, the vents are all screened in which keeps the pests out. You'll need to keep the exhaust fans running in the bathrooms to help dry the floors after your showers--an annoyance that is common in Kerala bathrooms. We did not take advantage of the on-site services, and we discovered the beautiful and unique backyard too late in our trip to enjoy it. Mr. Babu the caretaker was friendly.
The kitchen, though fully functional, was a bit dated.

Location was quiet and away from the buzz. All check in and check out processes were streamlined. Had a place for our driver also to have a nap. All facilties are the latest and in place.
