So we were a family of 15 including mix aged kids. the house is pretty old and all wooden so it has that nice wooden smell. It has the most antique items which not all of them usable. For example TV, phonogram with the horn, video games. The best part of the hotel was the attic. It has tv unit with a projector and yogibo bean bags. everything else is ordinarily simple and easy to use. we enjoyed our stay to the fullest. the garden area is amazing outside.

this part is the most important for big families and this is a personal experience. not everybody will have the same experience. so please read it. the kitchen is very small and the garbage bin is only one unlike other hotels which have segregated garbage bins. only one bathroom for such a big house and the bathroom attached to the kitchen and has a frosted glass door so one can easily see somebody's body shape. if you wish to sleep in the attic you may want to carry your futons upstairs because the yogibo beans are not that comfy for sleeping. the light in this house is considerably dull and insufficient on cloudy or dark days. the air conditioning is another factor you need to consider if you wish to utilise the last room where there is tea area. all rooms are tatami rooms except the living area so you have to be extra cautious. only single double bed sufficient for a family of 3. rest all have to sleep on futons on ground. now comes a bad experience. As we had kids we could not checkout on time and got late for 40 mins so the owner/keeper of the stay was not kind at all and charged us extra 1000yen for 30 mins. Even we cleaned all the dishes and kept them in dish rack for drying the keeper charged us extra 1500yen for cleaning fees which is absolutely rubbish and unacceptable. Worst part is, the owner did not confirm our stay until the checkin time passed and we had to do followup with booking.com from past 24 hours of our stay. even though the payment was made while booking the stay 1 week before, the owner said the booking was not confirmed. this is worrysome for families carrying kids because you may not be allowed to checkin just because owner could not confirm the booking payment. it was a blunder between booking.com and the owner which we had to face. I called booking.com 3 times to confirm the situation and then they said we have confirmed the payment with the owner, this all was done just 1 hour before the checkin time. so pleaseeee be careful!!

Charming thatched roof house in central Izu, up the road from the Tofuya resort. Close to Shuzenji, near many onsen and equidistant to north, south, east and west Izu, so a good central location for exploring Izu over several days.

Parking area very muddy--needs to be fixed with robanzai and gravel. Bedding (double bed) mattress and blankets were too small for the size of the bed. More instructions for how to work heaters, etc. are needed.

Charming thatched roof minka house connected to a tile roof house with various rooms and much space to spread out and relax in a rural setting, with easy car access to all of Izu for hiking trails, onsen, historic towns. Small kitchen but well equipped for cooking. Good wifi. Movie loft.

A lodging user guide would be helpful (include trash/recycling instructions; history of house). Wish list: dish towels; outdoor sandals; outdoor terrace seating.
