- The whole place is kept very clean and you get toiletries on arrival
- All the facilities seem new and well kept - probably the best shower I’ve had in PH
- Comfortable bed with a sturdy bedframe that doesn’t squeak or move too much
- Good A/C in the room
- Great location very close to China Town and Intramuros
- Pretty good wifi
- Checking in was one of the weirdest experiences I’ve ever had in a hostel. First they wanted me to show the booking before even entering the hostel. Then they wanted me to email them the booking because they didn’t have access to it. I had to sign a very detailed four page document. They wanted to search my bags - I protested this and it was fine after I just showed them my small backpack. They didn’t really want to tell me why they were going through all this, I kept asking if there was a problem, but they didn’t really respond and it just seemed like they weren’t supposed to have any guests and they were very confused/apprehensive about me being there.
I was the only one in the dorm and an apart from my bed all the other ones were still covered in plastic, so it looked like they were ‘open’ yet. I think I saw one or two other (Philippino) guests there but apart from that it was completely empty. However, it seems like they still cleaned the whole place very thoroughly every day.
I also asked if they had a place to store my bags after check out, because I wanted to spend the day in the area, but that was not possible. When I ordered a taxi the security followed me outside - at that point I’m not sure if she was just being friendly making sure I was safe or if it was so make sure I left.
Honestly I don’t know what to make of this. The place in itself was great, comfortable, clean, and I would’ve loved to stay another night or two but the whole experience with the staff was just too weird.
