About this house rental
Charming Cottage hideaway in the NW Seattle neighborhood of Crown Hill, with easy access to all the best Seattle has to offer. Includes fully-fenced backyard. Newly constructed Casita in backyard.
Newly updated main floor unit with full kitchen, bath, two bedrooms and living room, with LG Washer/Dryer. This space is on the main floor and sleeps up to 4 adults. One bedroom has a double bed with a single loft-bed above (bunkbed; close to ceiling). Master bedroom has a King size bed with a Purple brand pressure-relieving mattress. There are large-screen Smart TVs in both the master bedroom and the living room, each wired to the internet and local channels. There is WiFi throughout. Casita in backyard is useful as a workspace or picnic area (unheated).
Fenced-in backyard features all-new patio. We are still putting the finishing touches on the detached, un-heated Casita in backyard. Casita is wired for electricity and will offer seating and a table. Casita has double French doors that can be opened from the inside to create an indoor/outdoor space for relaxing when the weather is nice. The Casita entrance is a sliding door on the SIDE.
Full kitchen has your essentials like cookware, plates, bowls, glasses, mugs and utensils. There is a full-size refrigerator, stove, oven, and microwave, plus counter space. There is also a drip coffee maker and toaster. All cabinets and marble countertops are brand new.
The small bathroom has a bathtub with shower, toilet and compact vanity with counter. All fixtures including tub, toilet, sink and cabinets are brand new.
The Unit is all at one level, however, the front door (porch) and the back door exit to backyard have a couple of steps to climb or descend. We apologize that this makes our cottage not accessible for wheelchair-bound guests, or those individuals unable to use stairs.
There is another unit at the lower level of the house.
There is off-street parking for 1 car in the area between the street and yard (gravel).
Located just 10 minutes from the lively Ballard, Greenwood & Phinney neighborhoods, 15 minutes from Northgate, and just 20 minutes from Downtown Seattle. Close to the world-famous Woodland Park Zoo, Golden Gardens Park, Shilshole Bay, Ballard Locks, and much more. The trailhead into Carkeek Park hiking trails (with beach access & wetlands) is just a 1/2 mile away. More details below.

For those who want to explore the woods or beach, our cottage is just a half-mile walk to the Piper's Creek Trailhead South McAbee Entrance, part of the large, forested Carkeek Park and Piper's Creek watershed. The trail provides access to the entire park, which has a 3.2 mile loop trail through forest, wetland & apple orchard, with views and landscapes that change, culminating is access to Carkeek's expansive Puget Sound beach with views of the Olympic mountains and Bainbridge Island. Beautiful views can also be found at Golden Gardens Park near Shilshole Bay, which offers walking trails and picnic areas.

House was clean and cozy. I really loved the fresh flowers upon check-in, and the lavender and rosemary growing along the fence was beautiful abs fragrant. The only downside was parking on the gravel was a little difficult for my mini-van due to the amount of space.

There are a lot of signs, including a sign stating the replacement prices for each dish in the kitchen, despite the fact that property damage insurance is required by the host. As a result, it is hard to feel welcome in the house. The way the signs are written sounds like you could ruin things with a simple mistake. One example is the instruction to "please FOLD the bedspread. Do not bundle or ball up, as this might disengage the inside batting and ruin the bedspread" (emphasis in original).
My main complaint is that the listing doesn't mention that this is the top floor apt in a two-apartment home. I look for this information when I am booking VRBOs, because I have three children and I hate reminding them the whole trip not to stomp around, which I did this week. I passed up condos that would have fit our needs better just because I couldn't tell what floor they were on, so this was disappointing. The other apt was mentioned in the host email that I got a week after I booked, but I didn't read this email in detail until just before arrival because I assumed that it was just arrival info.
On arrival day, I looked for instructions on the app, but they weren't there. The host email had it, but parking info wasn't clear - we thought we could park in the driveway, which is part gravel, but were chewed out for using it. We were unsure whether the gravel shoulder was a parking spot.
The property has everything you could request, like shampoo. Unpleasant interactions with host.
