The site
The Forellenhof has a 5-hectare, park-like garden with several ponds, meadows, orchards, fire pits and old trees, in the summer you can enjoy the large swimming pool (8x30 m). The lawn in front of the holiday apartments is big enough for ball games, boules tournaments and picnics - at the same time if necessary.
The nearby Riesewohld is with seven square kilometers (700 ha) the largest forest in Dithmarschen, which - typical for a peasant forest - forms a mosaic-like structure of different forest types and forest uses due to the severely fragmented property. Neither sovereigns, landlords, nor the church ever had the say here. There was never a uniform management of the forest, which from today's perspective has received a heterogeneous landscape worth protecting.
New, large-scale acquisitions by the Schleswig-Holstein Nature Conservation Foundation ensure the continued existence of this unique, primeval forest-like natural landscape.
