About this house rental

Le Douluch is a converted seventeenth century stone barn with metre thick walls and exposed beams situated in a quiet spot overlooking the village of le Monastere. It is located in the Aveyron, a rural area of the Midi Pyrenees region close to the village of Estaing, one of Frances “beau villages”, in a largely rural area in the south-west of France. The area is not part of the usual 'tourist trail' which is one of its great attractions to the independent traveller and those who want to experience real French life. While it is remote enough for a lazy holiday or for a restful break on a longer trip, it also offers many sights and activities. Comfortable day trips from Le Douluch include visits to the Gorges du Tarn, the Millau viaduct, or Conques. Indeed it is only just over a 2 hour drive to Montpellier and the mediterranean coast. You can do as much, or as little, as you wish.
Le Douluch sits high on the shoulder of a ridge and enjoys spectacular views into the adjoining valleys. On clear days, you can see as far as Rodez, the departmental capital nearly 40 kilometres away. The barn is surrounded by fields and woodlands, and is located on a quiet country lane, making it the perfect tranquil setting for your holiday. The barn is comfortable, fully furnished and equipped with electric convector heaters in every room.
Ground floor
On the ground floor, beneath the original massive oak beams, is a large carpeted living area, with two comfortable sofas, an armchair, a television receiving local and English channels, and a CD/DVD player. There is a wood fired stove for the colder nights.
Adjacent is a fitted kitchen with fridge, gas cooker, dishwasher, microwave and coffee machine, together with a generous supply of utensils and equipment for you to prepare produce purchased at the local markets. A laundry/utility room with washer and dryer, a bathroom and separate toilet complete this floor.
The dining area contains an extendable table seating max 8 people. There are also double doors opening to a terrace with table and chairs for outdoor dining.
First floor
There are 3 roomy bedrooms on the upper level of Le Douluch. The main bedroom is particularly spacious with a king size bed, large wardrobe, armchair and desk. Its double windows open onto a spectacular view of the valley.
The other 2 bedrooms both have twin beds (which can be configured as doubles), as well as wardrobes and a chest of drawers. Both bedrooms have direct access to the swimming pool terrace area.
A large shower room with toilet is located off a landing between the upstairs bedrooms.
Outside
Outside the main door is a paved area, with table and chairs - perfect for summer lunches. Beneath the canopy of an ancient oak tree is a stand-alone BBQ.
The swimming pool (fully fenced as required by local law) is located on the upper terrace, accessible from the garden or the twin bedrooms. Several sun loungers are available for lazing by the pool, while taking in the expansive country views.
There is on-site parking for 2 cars.

Bed linen, bath and tea towels are supplied but please bring your own swimming towels
The house is equipped with cds, radio, dvds, books and board games, as well as a picnic set, rug and market baskets.

This is our 2nd stay at Le Douluch and it was as good as the 1st time. The house is gorgeous and well laid out. All communication with the owners was very clear and friendly and the manager Suzanne was lovely. The house is in a really tranquil area of France which isn’t hugely touristy but the pool is fabulous and private when the weather is good. We had a few overcast days this time but used that to explore the local area and would definitely recommend the chocolate made by the nuns at Abbaye de Bonneval and the lovely village of Valon and it’s chateau. Thanks again to Tony and we look forward to coming back sometime. The nearest supermarket is only 20 mins away and the terrace is beautiful to sit and eat meals in the fresh air drinking in the wonderful view!!

Overall the property is lovely and a fabulous place to stay, especially if you really want to explore the areas around you. The owner has left lots of suggestions for day trips (would highly recommend visiting some of the lakes nearby) and the nearest towns/villages are definitely worth a visit. The location is very remote (which we liked) so it is around 20 minutes to the nearest shop. Although the pool is lovely (and kept very clean) it is worth knowing that it does only get the sun from around midday until 6 so our children found it a little cold to go in outside of these times. Overall a lovely place which provides you a truly relaxing holiday.

What an absolutely beautiful property with such a magnificent view. We absolutely loved our stay here, the house offers lots of space and is really well furnished making you feel completely at home as soon as you arrive. That said you won't want to be inside as the pool provides such a lovely space to relax and enjoy the gorgeous French countryside. The outdoor dining area is ideal to sit back and enjoy a leisurely dinner and with its rural location it is so peaceful. Although you are a little off the beaten track it is only 20 minutes drive to the nearest supermarket (and McDonalds to keep the teenagers happy!). Speaking of the teenagers the barn has great wi-fi and with two bathrooms and a separate toilet the facilities meet all demands. We enjoyed fantastic weather but the barn has a wide range of TV channels available both English and French, there is a mix of books and games to ensure that if stuck inside you will be entertained. There is a locally based Manager (the very pleasant and helpful Katie) who popped by to clean the pool and was available if needed providing extra peace of mind. We thought that the photos of the property didn't do it justice as it was just the nicest place to relax and unwind. We would definitely return, and oh did we mention the magnificent view.....
