Quirky accomodation with spiral staircase, convenient location to where I was working
It was freezing cold on arrival. This was a business trip, so I needed an invoice to claim back, propery owner insisted this was booking.com to issue this, when it is the responsibilty of the host to provide, I requested this on a number of occasions and still no response. I cannot claim back for my stay without this info, so have lost financially and therefore, very shortsighted of the owner not to address as I regularly come to Tewkesbury for work and will not be staying there again.

Perfect location 10 minute walk to the centre. When shown the property we was given advice on where to go and and what’s best to do
No WiFi, we wasn’t that fussed as we only wanted the property to sleep in but if going for a few days signal a bit rubbish on ur own data

Location and privacy great, easy access to town centre
Whilst the kitchen is extremely well equipped it is a little tight for space but manageable

House was quirky! Had a lot of history as explained by the owner.
The house was very comfortable and nicely furnished. The spiral staircase to the upstairs lounge/kitchen was unique.
Alum house is situated on a small road and is very private.
Just an idea...We were travelling back from holiday and hadn't got any milk with us so maybe some small UHT sachets of milk to go with the complimentary tea and coffee?

The shower was fine (apart from the large cellar spider in the cubicle). The bed was comfy.
The place smelt of overpowering air freshener. It needed a deep clean, some areas were clean but others were seriously gross eg under the radiator and the spiral stairs. Cellar spiders everywhere including dead ones in bathroom, so lots of spider excrement on surfaces and cobwebs. The sofa bed was covered in dog hair when you opened it up. The bedding for sofa bed was stored in wardrobe and had picked up hair from there. Owner did bring clean covers round for us.

One night stay review. I was aware of the location being near two main roads however on one side if was very noisy at night, which isn't a problem if not using the sofa bed however we were. Quaint place to stay, be aware of the metal spiral staircase, not for somebody with poor mobility or eyesight. If you turn right out of the side road it is a 20 min walk into Tewkesbury, which was the ideal location for us. No need to go across country. Hot shower.
The facilties were clean however other parts were not, skirting, bin in the bathroom, light fitting upstairs covered in cobwebs and unfinished decorating in the lounge area. Could be spruced up and would be beneficial. The double bedroom has a concrete ceiling being as it was a previous industrial building so it was quite chilly but there is a heater. Also no hot water in the sinks. Please note no oven if staying for a number of nights.

Quirky and must say spotlessly clean
Debbie was the perfect host making sure we had all the comforts we needed for our stay .
The garden areas could do with some maintenance and a proper gate with all the shrubs cut back on the top level so more secure for pets and children
Also maybe a child gate at the top of the iron stairs inside we had to push the sofa against them to stop George trying to get down them as they are not pet or child friendly
Not having WiFi or even reception coverage on network

This cosy cottage was perfect for our stay and had everything we needed - great location for strolling into town. Super friendly, helpful and welcoming hosts.
It was perfect for us!

Lovely location if you like walking and privacy. Lovely riverside walks and only 15 minutes stroll from all the pubs and restaurants in Tewkesbury.
One side of the house backs onto an A road that has traffic lights at a narrow bridge crossing. We stayed on a sunny weekend when there seemed to be quite a few bikers out for the day revving their engines at the traffic lights. It certainly didn’t spoil our weekend though.

It's a really lovely quirky building a little way out of the lovely town of Tewkesbury.
The hosts were great when we arrived showing us round and telling us where we could access things in the neighbourhood which was really helpful.
Parking close to the property was really appreciated.
We added extra guests at short notice and the hosts were really helpfully (providing extra bedding etc). Sofa bed in the living room was very comfy (according to those who slept in it).
I absolutely loved the bluetooth mirror in the bathroom for playing music in the shower.
It could have been cleaner (hairs in the bathroom) and some of the kitchen utensils had dried on evidence of cooking.
The outside balcony was covered in spiders webs (and we had a few spiders in the upstiars room which is guess unavoidable).
This balacony looks out onto a road which was much busier than I expected for a rural road. Although there was some foliage cover, there are traffic lights at this point as the road narrows to go over a brdige and we pretty much had cars idiling there for much of the time we stayed, right into the evening, impacting on our feelings of privacy.
The kitchen is tiny and you can only use one appliance (sink drainer, toaster, kettle) at a time as there is so little counter space. It wasn't a huge issue for us as we ate out - but toast and coffee for breakfast was a juggling exercise.
I left my laptop charger and despite contacting the property to see if I could get it back by paying post and packing, it's never been returned. My bad for leaving it, but still.

DO NOT BE FOOLED
THIS HOUSE DOES NOT LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THIS!!!
So dirty you can’t see through the windows for cobwebs, so overgrown everywhere. They don’t answer the phone in check in and worse the fire alarm does not work!! Asked for preof and was forced out by the owner!
Tewkesbury was heaving with the music festival but this place was empty and now we know why! Instantly left as soon as we arrived ( not to mention the fact that it’s next to the waste water works and busy main road! ) Complained three times to booking .com. about getting a refund. The Owner looked completely unsurprised when we said we wouldn’t be staying but here I am getting asked to review !!! Please help me booking.com this place gives you a bad name!!!

Location close to town
Warm once heated up
Host friendly once they arrived
The potential this property has
Even though arrival time given, no one there to let us in. Contacted host by phone call and text but no answer. When host did arrive said was at work. Received msg 24hrs later saying they were in.
Property cold on entry. Told no one had a stayed for a week before. Should have been heated up in advance.
Clumps of dust and cobwebs around spiral staircase. Whole property felt like it needed a deep clean
Lots of various hairs in bathroom including pubic hairs. Boxes on bathroom floor lots of dust behind. Shower cable going black. Lots of room fresheners to mask mould smell.
Shower was either boiling hot or cold, temperature wouldn't regulate. Couldn't have a shower.
For the money would have expected a clean up to date property. Travelodge would have been a better choice based on our experience. Least you know what you are getting. Would have been £60 cheaper.

The location and hosts were br.
I think a gate by the road would make it much safer not only to slow humans going out onto the road but we could have let the dog out.

Comfy bed; nice cool room to sleep in which given current weather was welcome for our stopover visit on the way to Wales.
Welcome needed to be clearer about basics eg where was the hot water turned on etc. It was a little rushed.
Kitchen facilities a little basic.

A lovely tiny quirky house in a lovely setting, bed and sofa bed very comfortable. . Everything you needed for a few days stay even though we only stayed one night.
The spiral staircase took some getting used to but there are about 4/5 outside steps you can use to enter the upstairs which is easier if you have a physically disabled. .

Good location as only a short walk to the town. Good parking. Able to get into the property when we arrived in the morning. Plenty of information on things to do in the area.
Overall cleanliness was poor and lots of cobwebs. Musty smell ( I know it’s an older property )

Had a lovely stay at Alum House and would have liked to stay longer! The house itself is unique and very comfortable and had everything we needed. The spiral staircase is quite steep so our dog was nervous at first but she managed up and down fine in the end, may not be suited to an older dog but there are stairs outside if needed.
Donna was very helpful and gave us directions for a few different walks and also pubs we could take our dog to! The walk into the town is not long and can be accessed across the fields avoiding the main road. 🙂
No complaints!
