Connect inn Gion-Shijo

It's a cute boutique Japanese-style inn. It was very clean. The room size was big and comfortable. Also, there were many nice restaurants and a 7-11 nearby.

There's no staff onsite. They sent us the door code via booking.com on the day. Unfortunately they sent us a wrong code so it wasn't a very easy check-in for us. There's no elevator, so I wouldn't recommend it to people with heavy luggage or with difficulty climbing the stairs.

Great location for sightseeing and trains, had laundry machine and detergent.

Small things like no towel hooks, no clothing deoderizing spray, no shaving razors, never any staff around at the desk, didn't ask but probably can't hold bags while out.

The location of this hotel is great. We loved how close we were to the Gion area, which gave a lot of options for food and activities. We only stayed one night, and the location was perfect for this; however, I did want to bring some concerns to other guests' attention.

Unfortunately, we had significant issues prior to check-in. The staff consistently messaged us via the booking.com app, asking us to email them a copy of our passports. The booking.com app continued to display a warning message that says, "Do NOT share this information, especially off the website" (they have keyword filters). We went back and forth multiple times, and they claimed that they have a "secure" email, which is not a thing. After arguing for most of the day back and forth, they finally allowed us to check-in and sent us the hotel information. We would have been happy to provide our passport information in person, as is standard protocol at most international hotels. However, constantly sending messages implying that we would be unable to check-in and asking about our arrival time multiple times is unacceptable in my opinion. It really did not start the stay off on the right food. Upon check-in, the rooms are fine, but they did not have the stated couches, which was not a huge deal. In my room, the AC was turned off and it was incredibly hot and stuffy in the room. The hotel room was OK, and was not anything exciting. Overall, the hotel was not for us, and we will not be returning.
